By "just fine" do you mean max settings? or just high settings? honestly ill settle for "high", but if i can get better with what i have that would be great.

Maximum settings on both games just fine, so yours should be able to do that easly, Crysis Wars seems a bit more heavy though, but most servers seem to lock some settings to a bit lowered setting, but you should still be fine.

Just buy Crysis and Crysis Warhead.
I recomend you first play Crysis Singleplayer out, than Crysis Warhead, and thjan go Online in Crysis Wars untill Crysis 2 comes out :)

Oh and one tip for you:
Turn of all your Sound Options, since Crysis uses DirectX DirectSound it can not make any use of Sound Hardware acceleration and effects, and having them enabled can have a pretty big negative effect on your FPS (it can even cause game crashes)

I'd imagine a gtx460 would push high/very high at 1680x1050 in crysis 2. Considering the much smaller maps and higher performance, it'll be perfectly fine.

Also, if someone else blindly recommends an expensive gtx5 series card without justification (i.e. the computer is going to be very high end) i'll beat them with a stick :P

Summary of recommendations based on price/performance segments:

gtx460 768MB is awesome for £100-125
hd6870 (or even better, a hd5870) is win for the £150-200 bracket

*****Now passing into less performance for your hard earned money****

hd6950 is awesome for the £200-250
gtx570 is the £250-300 card

and THEN:
2 x gtx460 1GB for £300-350

The gtx580 is NOT a recommended card at this time, too much money, not enough oomph. All the recommended cards win at their respective price points compared to competitors.

Just bought crysis from gamestops digital store, now i need to wait through a massive download >:( Oh well, at least i got the game. Not like i'll be able to run it until i install the graphics card on saturday anyway.

By the way, (white snake), what do you mean by "turn off all the sound options"? are you suggesting i play the game without sound on?

Your best bet is:

GeForce GTX 460/Radeon HD 6870 for mid-range performance (1680x1050 high graphics)

GeForce GTX 570/Radeon HD 6970 for high-range performance (1920x1200 very high graphics)

The GTX 580 is a complete waste of money right now, you can wait until the Radeon HD 6990 comes out in Q1 2011 and you will get much better performance than the GTX 580. The Radeon 6970 has the same performance as the GTX 570, so either of those are a great purchase right now, but the 580 is just overkill for a couple frames you will not need. :)

Still planning, to get a Gtx m version for my future laptop, any Radeon mobile models though?

The Radeon 6970 has the same performance as the GTX 570, so either of those are a great purchase right now, but the 580 is just overkill for a couple frames you will not need. :) So the 580 is overkill for a couple extra frames you won't need but the 6990, which will apparently be faster is ok? :/

I got your first quote right, Shin. :)
However, I didn't quite get by what you meant by the second quote? (:/ ??)

The problem, shin, is that two hd6850's (or 2 gtx460's 1GB's) are easily on par, if not better than a gtx580 for less money (around £100 less). That's the issue with a gtx580 for me and all 'extreme' end cards this generation.

Spending the money on a gtx580 isn't worth it because there are far better solutions out there. Never mind that it's just too overkill. At least the hd5870 from last generation had no real competition price/performance wise, and to this day provides performance that you currently need to spend £220 for.

Having owned multi-GPU solutions in the past, i'll take a high-end single GPU over a multi-GPU setup any day :)

The past =/= the present though, and huge strides have been made in the last two generations with such setups.

If it were 2008 (or even 2009!), i'd side entirely with you on this one. But with micro stuttering effectively gone, minimum framerates fixed and performance scaling in the 90%+ area for gpu bound games, the future is multi gpu setups for the high end :)

4870CF and 4870X2 setups. Also worked on a 9800GX2 setup which was horrendous. Microstuttering was gone on the 4800 series but that wasn't the problem i had. I'm talking room, heat, noise, power as well as software level conflicts; for example, my 4870X2 had an issue with 2D clocking one GPU whilst 3D clocking the other. I don't believe the "future is multi-GPU setups" but they will remain available for those who wish to opt for the extra GPU power.

What do you think.

Turning off the sound is turning off the sound, not much more about it. ;)

It is a very stupid idea unless you are seriously getting less than 10fps, sound is extremely important in any game.

No, not really. Running the game without sound can be a handy fps boost, but it is so worthless to do because of the drawbacks of well... no sound. :D

I had some isues with my cards (flickering) swaped the cards round after checking for dust (there was non) and sudenly i can select 1920x1080...???

Couldnt select that in Crysis singleplayer first... weird.

And no i did not mean turning off the Sound, i ment turn off Sound Effects like EAX, Virtual Suround, Equalizer, etc. etc.

Both in the Configuration of your Soundcard/chip as in Windows Sound Configuration.
