Have you spoken with http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Maramal about marriage?

I said I already own an amulet of Mara.

Do I have to wear it all of the times? I take it off when not in a city.

You have to speak to Maramel about marriage or the amulet will not work. You can find the amulet as random loot so having one doesn't mean you've spoken to him.
Also you generally have to perform a task for someone before they'll express interest in you. Two possible wives that spring to mind are ysolda in whiterun if you fetch her a mammoth tusk and that woman in Riverwood ater you've got the golden claw for her brother. If you look on one of the wikis you'll get a complete list of possible spouses.

After getting the 'quest', not all potential spouses are located in cities.

Having a wife in Skyrim ain't all that great in my opinion, you can't really hold any kind of conversation with them and that "My Love" line every time you walk in the door is just irritating after a few days. After a while I would buy a different house and move her there just so I could have a little peace and quiet when I came home.....women....ya can't live with 'em and ya can't kill 'em....LOL.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Marriage Scroll down for a list of spouses and what to do to get them interested.

Personally, I prefer for my characters to marry followers. That way I can get the benefits while I'm on the road.
