Can't seem to fix follower dark face bug

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 9:05 pm

This is probably a pretty easy fix normally, but I can't seem to eliminate it from all my NPCs. Out of the 12 NPC Followers I created, 5 of them still have the upper part of their head mismatched in color despite exporting facegen data numerous times. The NPCs affected are those with scars, darker skin, or tattoos. I've been using http://www.creationkit.com/Dark_Face_Bug but have had no luck thus far. I also tried removing just the newly generated facegen textures while leaving the meshes, but that only resulted in all affected NPCs having mismatched skin colors on their faces when compared to their bodies.

If anyone can give me any advice or help with solving this, I would very much appreciate it.

I'm wondering if maybe my problem and the grey face or dark face issue are actually completely different, which would explain why the fix methods aren't working. A video I saw on fixing the dark face bug showed the follower before and he didn't have the discolored forehead problem I'm seeing, the entire face was greyish. I've tried the same methods many times with little variations, but stil haven't had any success.

Here's some screenshots of the exact issue. I'm using Apachii hairs for some of the characters and have followed the fix in the readme of that mod as well to no avail. The males just use default hairs though.

Please help if you can.

If you are using any face and body mods, disable those before you enter the CK and then generate the faces for all of your NPCs at the same time. I have the dark foreheads in the CK whenever I have a face mod installed.

Thank you! That worked, at least in part.

My female followers aren't experiencing that bug anymore, though I wonder why the guys weren't affected. I don't have any body mods, but when I removed my face mods (Better Females, No More Blocky Faces, Natural Eyes, and Less Harsh Elves) the facegen must have worked much better.

Thanks for the assistance ch0k3h0ld, I wouldn't have thought enabled face mods could influence the CK even if they weren't selected as mods for the CK to load. I guess I'll try and find what mod might be changing faces for the males now, to my knowledge I don't have any others besides those I had turned off.

I found that I had issues with No More Blocky Faces leaving either meshes or textures behind when I uninstalled it (or maybe both) and I had to remove those manually. I think that one affects male and female. In all fairness, I might have originally installed it manually and just forgot. The CK uses all of the loose files installed by the mods you're using in the game. I can't tell you why those interfere in FaceGen but they do. Glad I could help.

Did anyone ever determine precisely was causing the male foreheads to stay dark, even when the female ones had ben fixed by temporarily disabling Bella's and other face mods?
Thanks!

I just determined on an Altmer (High Elf male) it was a value of the MaleHeadDirt03.dds
setting it to *coloraverage made it translucent (set to the normal face color).

I'm currently having a problem that is something like tihs. I created a female follwer and gave it some facial coloring. It appears in the CK just fine, but not in game. In game the character is bland with none of the coloring I gave it.

You might ave the facial tattoo issue. search on that, and you might find a solution. Also, you might DL amethyst deceiver's photobooth http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/17018 and create th faces there and spf them with the console and import them into the CK. Be aware of the forehead and facial dirt issues, above, but that is the system I use.

Good luck!

I always use Photobooth now. It is a much more visual way to create the looks for the NPC than using the CK. Zohl, remember that you have to use Ctl-F4 and export the textures again after each change to the NPC. Any change at all seems to break the connection. In addition, you need to be sure you save your changes to your plugin before you export. And don't forget, as mentioned above, you cannot have any face or body mods installed, or the export will not work. I think it is the number of variables involved that cause people to think the system doesn't work. When I am helping somebody through this, I generally find that they have some portion of Xenius' mods left in their Meshes or Textures folders. It does not uninstall itself correctly all the time. To find that, you might have to uninstall every mod you have and then look to see if anything is left in Meshes and Textures. They should be empty except your NPC face exports. Then do your face exports and see if they work better.
