Can't shootdown hawks anymore

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 10:01 am

Did they patch that away? I rather liked the amount of ingredients you get from it. I thought maybe I mis-targeted them with the TCL console command or something but that shouldn't persist between restarts of the game right?

Do you shoot them flying or do they perch in trees?

Personally, I've never seen one of the hawks land in a tree... I thought that they were constantly flying.

I was wondering about Hawks the other day. Where do all these Hawk Feathers and Beaks come from? Where are these hawks I can shoot? Are those the ones flying over Solitude? I thought those birds where just "background decor".

You can shoot the hawks flying over Solitude. It's not exactly easy though.

They do land, so if you can find one of their hilltop nests you can shoot them when they come in. I've bagged a couple this way, but lost one when it fell down the cliff-side and disappeared into a crack between rocks.

They are pretty hard to shoot down with magic or an arrow, but it is possible. Most are way out of range though in the sky.

Shooting down the hawks in Solitude is not too hard, just need to go up to the Emperor's Tower walkway and aim from there. Only problem is the damn guards get pissy and give you a fine.

I suspect this is what's happening to me. Lightning hits them very easily. But the newly spawned ones are immortal.

Yup, just witnessed it first time ever today myself. A hawk landed in the nest in a tree. Shot it down with a Firebolt. IIRC, yesterday I was able to shoot a hawk down from the fly. You can do both still in 1.3.

I, too, suspect that the problems must be with respawned individuals. I haven't shot many of them off the sky (maybe around seven, and with at least two different characters), but whenever I've shot, it's worked.

You need to learn to fish with dynomite. Or in this case chain lighting. Fire and ice spells have a long travel time while lightning is instant. This means you can lead the target with a shorter gap. A quick turn by the target won't make you miss. Using chain lighting allows for a second hawk to be dropped about 1/4 of the time.

I saw hawk land on a cliff nest above a bandit. So I figured this will be cool, I'll hit with a fury spell and watch it attack the bandit. So I hit with the fury spell and it comes off its nest and dives down towards the bandit and I'm thinking "Go Bird!". But instead it continues its nosedive straight into the ground, dead.
