can somebody tell me..

I've got a small issue here...

I started playing Skyrim and got part way through the main quest line when I loaded Dawnguard. Now I've noticed that NPCs are getting killed off during Vampire attacks and obviously not being replaced. So what I wonder is Dawnguard going to depopulate Skyrim on me? Did I need to finish the main storyline BEFORE loading the expansion the first time?

If anybody knows I'd appreciate a hint here. Thanks.

Did you join the Dawnguard? I think it only happens when you do that. If you join the vampires, it will still happen, but only in the wilderness, and Dawnguard scouts attack, instead, but only target you. Either way, they end after the questline, so finish, and you will be fine ;)

Yes...started the dawnguard questline... so, I take it I'm at risk of losing Importnant npcs then? They can't kill off anybody neccesary to quests can they? And CAN I finish the Dawnguard quests right now? I'm level 29.

Most important NPCs are essential and cannot be killed, but some that are in small side quests can be, but no one that is important to any of the major questlines. The questline isn't that hard, and at level 29 you should be able to finish, so don't worry too much ;)

And don't feel bad for joining the Dawnguard. You were just deciding to be a good vampire hunter. Not your fault, just try to stay away from towns until you finish.
