Can somebody who's edited in-game NPCs give me a hand here p

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 11:22 pm

I want to fix a certain NPC introduced by Dawnguard, because I personally feel they need it, but I've no idea how to load up an NPC in the Creation Kit (I have looked, yet I see no option to do so), could somebody please give me some info/tips/etc? Thanks.

Assuming you've created your esp using Dawnguard.esm as a master, NPCs are listed in the Object window under Actors | Actor. Doubleclick on one there and edit away :smile:

Dawnguard is a master file, yet I get nothing when I click on actors...

I do mean literally nothing, I get "actors -> actor -> male" and nothing else at all except for the ability to create my own actor from scratch, but that's not what I want to do.

Figured out what you meant, but when I try to load the Dawnguard data the CK kit crashes after getting to 89% -_-

I get:

Assert

File C:\_Skyrim\Code\TESV\TES Shared\misc\BGSLocalizedString.cpp

Line 1566
LOCALIZATION: Error opening or reading strings file.

and if I click Ignore I get:

MASTERFILE: LOCALIZATION: zero entries or empty block size read from strings file STRINGS/Danwguard_ENGLISH.STRINGS. Strings will be missing.

Have you added Dawnguard.bsa to the archive list in your SkyrimEditor.ini? If not, open SkyrimEditor.ini in an editor program like Notepad ( I use and recommend Notepad++) and look down toward the bottom where there is a section called [Archive]. Under that are two archive lists. Add Dawnguard.bsa to the second list so it reads:

SResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update.bsa, Dawnguard.bsa

While you are in SkyrimEditor.ini you might as well also go back up to the top and find the end of the [General] section and add the following line:

bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=1

you're gonna need it too.

Ok, it works, I've loaded the npc up, thanks for that.

Now...

Spoiler
How do I stop her using drain life and necromancy when she becomes human, because that's what I want to fix, I also want to fix her eyes at some point, but that'd require skills I do not possess?

Ok, this is beyond annoying. I've made the changes, if I load the file that's on my computer when I play Skyrim, the changes I have made take affect, but if I subscribe to the mod via Steam, none of the changes I've made take effect. Is there any way to fix this? -_-

Ok, I can get the mod to work if I upload it to Nexus, but not to Steam, I am not sure why, however. If you'd like to try it out, the link is here.

I've managed to do a few updates for the mod, but I want to make it so you can give Serana commands like you can with any other follower, yet nothing I've tried works. Also, if somebody could help me out with the issue I have with her face that'd be sweet, cos while the whites of her eyes are now actually white, her irises will not go the colour I choose and nothing i do gets rid of the sickly grey look of her skin.

Check out the tutorials on making follower companion npc. It will mean changes to the factions tab.
