I have the latest graphic drivers, I have tried a few fixes, the config file , the command line startup from steam....

When the game loads its fast and looks very nice. (In the landing user interface - new game, settings etc)
The video intro plays well, and then as soon as the game begins in the cryo chamber I get less than one frame per second.
Takes ages to load - if i try to reset the resolution it takes too long to move the mouse to accept the changes and reverts back...

I am running Windows 7 64bit, ATI 5800 (1gb) , i5 processor, 12gb ram, screen res - 1980x1280

Please help - I would really like to play this game, so far i haven't been able to step out the cryo, and steam says i have played this for almost 3 hours.

This is just a shot in the dark here....since you didn't list what command lines you've tried.

Go into your steam library page, right click Rage...go to properties...set launch options... insert "+jobs_numThreads 0" without the quotes.


It's for dual core CPU's, I've seen that there are dual core i5's out there, so it may help. It sure helped me when I first got the game. I had terrible stuttering as well.

First of all make sure you have the newest driver for your graphics card.
Then as Pracitikill mentioned set your value for how many threads are dedicated to misc backgrounds tasks in the game ('jobs') - this value should be the # of physical cores minus 2 but other values may work as well.

Also make sure 'Texture Detail' is disabled.
