sorry if this is the wrong spot, not really any spoilers i just need help.

i'm trying to start this quest. your suppose to go to the blue palace, talk to falk firebeard, then see varnius junius talk to the jarl, then talk to firebeard again to start the quest

but on my game, i talk to firebeard, and varnius just stands there, he never talks to the jarl.

help please? i have the guide and it says there are no requirements for the quest to start, and this quest is required to get the house in the city.

I had exactly the same problem.

I found a fix that worked for me. go to the blue palace and walk up the stairs so you can see everyone, open the console and type: "setstage MS06Start 5"

Are there any fixes for this on the 360 version?
I entered the palace once before on a thieves guild quest, could I have messed something up by not being there long enough?
Can I really be screwed out of something as "big" as getting to be thane of a hold because I wasn't in earshot of a onetime conversation?
