Can I switch between vampirism and lycanthropy as many times

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 1:45 pm

Hello,

I purchased Dawnguard and though I'm not quite far enough into the game on my current file to become either a vampire or a werewolf yet, I want to experience all the perks of being both on the same file. I understand that I cannot carry vampirism and lycanthropy at the same time, which I'm OK with -- but I'm just wondering if I choose to cure one and then become the other, will I have a chance to obtain the first transformation again later? Or do I have to be careful and experience everything the vampire or werewolf has to offer first before I find a cure and contract the other, because I won't get another chance?

Thanks, hope my question makes sense! I know this doesn't strictly have to do with Dawnguard (unless they changed something) but seeing as the expansion explores the two transformations further, I thought I would ask here.

Vampire Lordship is a one time deal.

Lycanthropy is a one time deal if I recall.

Im not sure about lycanthropy. But with vampirism you can get as many times as you want. On my main character I was a vampire then cured it, later became a werewolf and cured that, now I'm a vampire lord. I'm pretty sure you only get one chance to become a werewolf, unless there is a quest for it in Dawnguard.

Oh yeah, and the vampire lord is a one time deal unlike regular vampirism. As stated above.

OK, so its probably not possible to explore both the Vampirism & Lycanthropy perk trees on the same file then?

The Dawnguard vampire and werewolf perk trees etc are entirely separate. You get asked to chose, and you can't change your mind.

just make a backup of your save and get vampirism on one save and on the backup get lycanthropy

That's right, I forgot there's a difference. Yes, regular vampirism is unlimited I think. Being a vampire lord is a one time deal then. OK. So is the Lycanthropy tree attached to the regular werewolf, or is that part of a bigger questline? Because in that case you could probably become a werewolf, max out the Lycanthropy perks through regular usage, then cure it and become a regular vampire, then a vampire lord and play with the Vampirism tree perks, couldn't you? Or is that wrong?

I might just do this, split my file into two just before the big choice and play from there.

I just wanted to see if its possible to be able to experience both of the new skill trees without having to play two different files, but if its not no biggie. Thanks for the replies, everyone!

*Major Spoilers*

Your all wrong. At the end of the questline, just speak to Serana and select ”can you make me into a vampire”. She'll ask if your sure, and she'll bite you. You get the Vampire Lord again, too, but only thru her or Harkon. It should even over ride lycanthropy. When you tire of it, go join companions and drink the blood. When you wanna be a vampire lord again, DONT cure your lycanthropy via the questline. Go back to Serana/Harkon and request to be turned, and there ya go. Provided you dont cure your lycanthropy via the witch head method, you can theoretically go between full vampire lord and werewolf infinitely. To go back to being a werewolf, just go find Aela and she'll turn you back
