Can the UI be salvaged?

I love the UI, it works perfectly for me. All I'd want to change (or add) is an option to sort the contents by weight and value

am I the only one not bothered by the ui?

No you're not, but unlike you, they understood that this thread is obviously not for people who have no problem with the UI, so they just went their way.

And there are people like you who confuse a thread to discuss "how to get the UI better", and a poll asking for your opinion on the UI.

Can't blame you too much though, with all the stupid polls everywhere all the time... :)

If Darn gives it a try.... Yes Yes it can. Ill be playing it in a few hours stupid slow internet connection. I kinda like the look of the new ui switching by pulling out that list thingy well see how well it actually works in a little while though
Looked through a few more posts WTH!?! They used .swf files for the menus? Why would you do this! Hopefully Font changes are still done through the ini :flamethrower: :brokencomputer:

I was constantly annoyed by FO3 UI, the slow animation when entering and exiting and the lack of a hotkey for map and journal was brutal.
brutal lol more like a minor inconvience...

Sounds like DarN and others are looking in to it. Apparently it uses flash rather than HTML so there is a learning curve, and possibly a cost for flash software. (From my quick glance at a thread in the mod section.)
If they paid for the software, then you can bet your liver that they're ripping it out of the construction kit as we post..
because they can't give away something they had to pay for as a company..

.swf files are seemingly the guts of the new menu system. Unlike XMLs, I have no idea how to decipher/edit them. Smaller fonts would be great if someone can figure it out.
Back to school then :P

from the wiki about .swf files
SWF files can be generated from within several Adobe products: Flash, Flash Builder (an IDE) and After Effects, as well as through MXMLC, a command line application compiler which is part of the freely available Flex SDK. Other than Adobe products, SWFs can be built with open source Motion-Twin ActionScript 2 Compiler (MTASC), the open source Ming library, the free software suite SWFTools, the proprietary SWiSH Max2. There are also various third party programs that can produce files in this format, such as Multimedia Fusion 2, Captivate or SWiSH Max.
we have options :)

I say have a little faith and patience in the experience modders. As we've seen over the last decade, they can mod/change/make better just about anything.

Something like a UI(see Darnified UI, DarkUI and so on) would be childsplay, me thinks.

The UI is more efficient then Morrowind or oblivion.. its smooth and delicate. After you get the hot-keys down pact and the arrow keys it's great. Even if they mod it, Im not changing the UI. The only thing I would add is a character display.

Not playing a game this good because of something as trivial as the UI is a bit of an overreaction, don't you think?

Anyway, I definitely think the UI could be improved with mods. My only issue is the lack of mouse friendly controls and how short the visible lists of items are, both of which could probably be fixed. DarN needs to get back here and start working. :P

I would consider it the equivalent of refusing to drive a Lexus because you don't like the way the odometer looks...

Not really, more like refusing to drive an old peugeot because it is impossible to press the brake pedal without pressing either the clutch or the gas at the same time.

YES! you are!

I'm not bothered by the UI as a whole. The only issue I have is the abysmal navigation of the Perks screen. I'm using a keyboard and mouse, for what it's worth, and I'm actually able to navigate through the rest of it faster than in previous Bethesda games.

Perks screen needs fixing, though. It's atrocious.

The console UI is quite poor. That's my biggest gripe so far.

Exactly. The ingenuity of some of the mods is astonishing. Something like a UI mod, even if it is flash-based is childs play for them :hehe:

I wouldn't mind if they made the UI font more classic, instead of this high-tec looking font they could use the one they had in Oblivion books.
