Can't use nav mesh auto-gen

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 11:25 pm

I'm following Bethseda's level design tutorial, and I'm at the point where I need to make the nav mesh. Problem is, they say to use Recast-Based Generation and this is grayed out. I haven't followed the tutorial exactly; I took some artistic liberties in the level's layout and pieces. Could this be the problem? I'd rather not do it by hand :( I appreciate any help!

you have to turn navmesh mode on by clicking the red navmesh icon on the main toolbar.

its actually a lot easier to do it by hand. the auto gen usually screws up quite badly unless your layout is very simple. you end up spending more time doing damage control than you would have by doing it manually IMO

Yeah, I'm definitely starting to see what you mean. This error list is a bit horrendous...especially in my cave sytem. Well, thank you both for your input.

Yeah it's pretty much useless for caves. The tutorial even points that one out :P It's decent enough for most other tiles though... Makes working around clutter a little easier.

This. Only auto generate it if you have, like me, a giant 1100 cell exterior worldspace to navmesh. At that point you'll still have to do a lot of correcting, and will likely have to go over every single cell to check it, but it wont take as long as doing it by hand. However, for just about every interior and small exterior change, do it by hand.

Starting to see the issues in my level; Draugr are extremely glitchy, especially on staircases. Well, thank you all for your help!
