I know you can store it in containers, but I'm fairly certain you can't just drop it on the ground.

Yeah, only way I've noticed you can "drop gold" is by putting it in containers (chests, barrels, sacks, ect) and pickpocketing it onto someone don't think you can straight up drop it.

Are you guys all sure? I swear your able to drop gold, look for it in your inventory misc section, and then press the drop button, select how much, and then done.

Yeah when you try to do that, the gold doesn't even show up in your inventory. I remember trying to do so a while back to drop gold in the beggars bucket in Riften.

It's only in the misc section when you're accessing a container, otherwise it's not there. I found that out when I wanted to decorate my home with bags of money, but couldn't find my gold anywhere in my inventory.

EDIT: :ninja:'d

There's literally no need to ever drop your gold, since it doesn't actually weigh anything and it's nice to be able to keep track of how much gold you actually have without having to go back home and look inside all your chests. In addition, there's the problem of your 'Gold Found' stat - let's say you've found 1000 gold, and then decide to store it in a container. Once you take it back out, your 'Gold Found' stat will read 2000 gold because you just found 1000 gold in a container. The game isn't smart enough to tell that it's 1000 gold that originally belonged to you in the first place :D
