Can you gain rank in factions? : Fallout: New Vegas

Can you rank up in faction like soldier to officer?

I'm not sure but you were able to become a ranger (one of those NCR badasses you see in the trailers) in FO2 and a member of the brotherhood in FO1 and FO3 (you were a "Knight" by the end of Broken Steel) so I imagine anything is possible.

We may possibly be able to be promoted up to a set rank in the factions but I seriously doubt that we will end up as a factional leader in New Vegas.

Really, you could? I never felt like I was a part of the BoS like that, must've missed/forgotten the part where they make me a Knight.

But yeah, I hope you can actually be a part of the faction, not just helping them as a mercenary, and gain influence and power within the faction.

If I remember correctly you were made an honourary knight in the BoS just after the start of Borked Steel and just after the last sequence in the Purifier. Although it was handled in what I think was an offhand manner and so could easily be missed or overlooked.

They don't throw you a parade but yes, you do become a BOS Knight in Broken Steel and a member of Lyon's pride by the end of FO3's main quest.

I wouldn't expect a really deep ranking process in New Vegas but would atleast expect to be able to become enlisted and advanced to Ranger status at some point down the questline with NCR.

I'd quite like to gain ranks in New Vegas. I really enjoyed the ranked guild missions in Oblivion, and always wished i could be more involved with some of the factions in Fallout 3 (mainly the outcasts).

I'm hoping for us to be able to gain ranks too. Not becoming the leaders of the factions or anything, but to gain a few ranks perhaps (plus, of course, the change of attitude from the people in the same faction)... All in all, I hope we can become much more involved with the factions in New Vegas than we could with those in FO3.
