Cannot get near golden glow estate

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 6:36 am

I've began the quest, but no matter what I try, any attempt to go near goldenglow just crashes the game everytime, I've removed mods and textures to set it back to vanilla, loaded, used wait to try a different time, I'm out of ideas, in 200 hours of game play this is the first quest that's been bugged by CTD, please can anyone help?

Have you tried updating your Nvidia/amd drivers to the latest beta ones?

Have you altered your ini files in any way? Cell buffer, ugridstoload, or memory allocation?

Yes, I have uGrids at 9, it's been that way throughout most of the game, I am aware of the problems this can cause, but this problem seems to be more to do with spawning, I had similar in FO3, had to use the editor to remove the offending spawn before I could get near the red bicycle factory, unfortunately in this case that's not an option.

Edit, ATI card drvers are the latest beta 12.1

Having it on 9 defo can cause stability issues mate. Try what the other guy suggested, walk towards the area looking at the floor. Worth a shot.

Okay, does anyone have a safe way to set uGrids back to default without me losing my current save, I tried the window thing I did before, but not working this time, I'm still not convinced it's uGrids at this point but a spawn issue.

I had this exact same problem. It apparently fixed itself over time. I just went on and did a few other things, then came back.

I fought the guards head on at the main gate, killed them all. The game still crashed as I approached the beehives from the left side. I then approached them by going up the right side and set the first three from the right on fire (using a torch). It worked and I was able to back away (the way I came) and get into the house (which I couldn't do before).

My advise is to just go do a few other things. Save near the estate. Turn off the game. Load the game back up and try to go in. It worked that way for me.

Thanks for the replies guys, I attempted the nvidia instructions to reduce uGrids, no joy, but I've also been teleporting around skyrim to check stability, so far only getting near golden glow causes a crash to desktop, I have tried approaching from different directions still no joy, this is looking more and more like it's certain to be a spawn issue, I even re-installed the game from scratch and can go anywhere but golden glow, I'm kinda wishing they had not overhauled the engine now, even Fallout was not this freaking unstable, I feel like if I breath the game will crash.

Wait for three days, and stay away from the whole rift area. See if that doesn't help.

For resetting ugrids...... Load up your current save. Go inside somewhere. Open the console, and type:

set ugridstoload to 7

Save your game. Exit to your desktop. Try loading the save, and going outside.....
