I cannot initiate dialogue with my new character and quest

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 5:35 am

Hi guys,

I have followed the Quest Design tutorial exactly as it was written (here: http://www.creationkit.com/Bethesda_Tutorial_Planning_the_Quest).

When I made Bendu Olo, the quest appeared to work correctly.

Now I have decided to deviate from the tutorial, but only by the character made and the dialogue.

With nothing else changed, the character I have created, will never be interactable. She sits there going "hmmm"? Not even the first peice of dialogue will trigger.

I have taken four screen shots of the state of my quest that I hope might help someone identify where I have erred. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Please let me know if there is any additional information I can display that would make it easier to help you identify my mistake.

Thanks again!

Have you tired saving the game with the mod active, and reloading that save? Lots of posts about it right now.

Yeh as BBD says, it's been asked quite a lot. You may be experiencing our good ol' friend "the dialogue/quest bug".

If you follow what he suggested and you DO then see your dialogue after loading the new save, then you've done everything right on your end.

Hopefully Beth should have this sorted soon

In the mean time it would make things a bit easier over here if there was a temporary sticky explaining the current bug

Awesome. I will try this workaround. I searched but didn't notice the thread by BigBadDaddy.

Much appreciated.

There is a large thread running right now about this bug. Basically, right now dialogues are broke on quests marked Start Game Enabled. The only quests where dialogue reliably shows up without saving and then reloading your save game are ones that are NOT marked start game enabled and are specifically marked as started by a script.

A fix involves creating a bootstrap quest that is marked start game enabled with an attached quest script where the OnInit() of the bootstrap quest starts the REAL quest by script. Then the dialogues attached to the second (real) quest should work properly. Unfortunately, using a script (either by bootstrap or trigger) may fix dialogue, but there are other bugs like quest aliases not getting filled and scene dialogues not working that may still be broken until the user loads a save game made when the mod was already installed. At least that is the rumor. I have only confirmed the bug, I haven't confirmed the fix or the continued presence of other bugs.
