Cannot launch Steam and install Skyrim, need your help

Post » Mon May 14, 2012 5:13 pm

Hello everyone,

Because the Steam forums are down, I'm asking for help here. Please, help the damsel in distress.

I bought Skyrim in the Steam store and when I enter the shop, it says I possess Skyrim.

I installed Steam on my computer, but when I click on the steam.exe, the steam client tries updating, then I get this message: steam exe (main exception) : to run steam you must first connect to the internet.

I made sure Steam was allowed in my firewall, even disabled my firewall and my antivirus, but still get the same error. I tried reinstalling Steam, but I still have the same error, when obviously, I am connected to the Internet. I also tried deleting the clientregistry.blob file, but no change.

I don't know what to do anymore, I can't launch the Steam client, and can"t download and install Skyrim on my PC. Any help will be appreciated.

Here are my computer specs, I'm a little bit above minimum specs: SONY VAIO VPCEB1M1E

WIndows 7 (64) (Steam is intalled in the x86 program file)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD
Intel core i3 330M (2.13Ghz dual core)
4Go RAM

firewall windows 7 ; antivirus BitDefender

Problem solved. There was a firewall I had to disable, built in my internet connection box. Had to disable it with administrator rights.
