Very disapointed, last night I ran out bought a GTX 550 ti 2GB DDR5, put it in my i7 with 6GM ram running Vista64 ultimate.

I've disabled antivirus, and most everything except video driver, and keyboard (G-Series Profiler), I've set audio to 16 bit, 44`00 Hz (CD Quality), listening on USB Creative Headset (in case it matters)...

When I crash from the intro it blows up windows graphics are snowed, system reboots twice, and windows tells me it has recovered from a serious error. I've used the latest general release video drivers from nvidia, and now have tried the latest beta drivers, which includes a 3d profile for Skyrim

And I can't play this thing. $300+ (I bought 2 PC copies + new video card, to play alongside my son) Really disapointed, but mostly I would like some help out to get this thing in a playable state if possible.

Video=EVGA GEForce GTX550 TI Superclock 72Mhz PhysX set to the GEForce GTX 550 Ti, (not automatic and not CPU).

As you see instead of playing on my day off, I've been visiting forums. I'm sure the Bethesda folks feel bad, but pretty sure they aren't feeling bad enough for this train wreck (the other computer is crashing as well but we can at least get to a point past the intro... it's baby steps right now)

Did you have a AMD card prior to putting in the Nvidia card? Did you remember to clear out all remains of prior drivers?

Since you mentioned it... I will go ahead and uninstall my graphics drivers -reboot- and reinstall. Actually professionally I support Windows Servers and supported games for 13 years prior to moving to servers. I really wasn't prepared to go back to 1992 days of troubleshooting a game with such a wide-release, and knowing I'm using moderately recognized hardware and OS. I'll check back after I go through the uninstall and reinstall.

Have you tried to unplug the USB headset and play with the soundcard (?) you have installed?

Be careful not to MIX the various fixes all at the same time.

Well.. I have been trying a lot of fixes. I've modified my settings file (but backed it up so I could put it back), to turn down the smooth mousing etc.

I definately tried just the sound, first. As I know that is the most common issue people are having during the intro. Then I went to shutting off AntiAliasing and Filters, note I did this in the nvidia control panel first, and then tried from within the game, going back to setting 3d settings in the control panel to application controlled where possible.

These fixes are ... all over the place. I realize it isn't beyond any of us to "get it working" eventually, taking things apart, and trying processes over, etc Heck I even reinstalled the OS on my son's computer now.. twice.

We just should *not* be doing this on our 11-11-11 day off... playing this game has been much anticipated, and greatly hyped. I played Arena the Elder Scrolls probably more than I played oblivion. My son played Oblivion a heck of a lot, and this could have been a really fun day for both of us. He's feeling bad for my out of pocket, and the hours in line waiting for the game, as they led to, reinstalls, reconfigurations... and here I sit probably 7 hours into working on both pcs.

All right, everything nVidia was removed and now reinstalled, I'm rebooting, I'll double-check my sound settings are where we know we have to put them.... and come back and see if any new thoughts are merging..

I can see there are 3 speakers devices listed in your system with the exact same specs.

Try to see if you can remove 2 of them, so that you have only 1 speaker device listed.

I'm bluescreening at the intro. All total I have bluescreened 9 times since 2:25am this morning (when I first tried running Skyrim).

I'll download WinDbg, and see what the mini dump files have to say .. as if I didn't know.. some obscure video driver issue probably. I'll be surprised if it is sound, but that would be well not worth doing anything more for this game. I'll be back

I have no speakers attached to the system. I am only using the usb headset. I have deleted the devices and yes, they reinstall. I've turned my graphics down to low and I really want to bag it, I mean I would like to play it more than I want to bag it, but I want to have a better rest of my day than I've had so far. It's 5:30pm pst.. and I haven't yet got past the intro. I'm downloading the Windows debugging tools to read my dump files to confirm which item is the cause of the blue screen, but...!#$!##$!

ok.. so I'm on my way to uninstall the latest beta version (was crashing earlier with latest final release).. I'll go get that full release one I had earlier.. then I'm going to go run as fast as I can at that brick wall...

who cares if he had an amd card before, that is completely irrelevant.

It is the game. It is a buggy POS.

And yet that does not help one bit , and it is relevant

Try completely removing all nvidia drivers - may have to use safe mode. Then on reboot let windows detect your cards and use the default driver. See if that works, then upgrade the drivers again. I had a similar issue and it was caused by a corrupt driver. Had nothing to do with the game at all.

Problem Solved!.... clue was in the debug of the dmp file, and I'm embaressed and slightly humbled.. But cool now I can play.

So I googled "GRAPHICS_DRIVER_TDR_FAULT", and found someone with an older card (nVidia) finding that the fan heatsync had slipped from the card. This is a card I bought last night, in fact I installed two cards into two computers, installed OS etc.... so in the myriad of the work I've been doing to get this playing on two computers.. overlooked one basic thing.. open the case and look at the card.

But any rate the tools that helped GPU-z (free download).. showed the fan was not moving (I have a lot of fans in the case, so no sound clue)... I found a nylon cable tieback had obstructed the video card fan. A Clip later and voila!... at least I'm so much further (still in the wagon and the intro).. but I think this was my core problem. I believe I get to get out of the wagon!!

Also wonderful online tool(s) out there to process your minidumps.. that vague video error was not so vague after all.

I had exact same problem, 4 tries, had to cold boot to recover... turned off the AA in the games options, now playing for over an over, no problems.

After the pre-load encryption took 23 mins to get to 100%, it decided to lay a smelly pile on my PC, then the Game and Steam decided it was time to DL the game in Steam for the next 4 hours. Sweet

Upon return, play game, get into intro as far as (WASD) is introduced , apparently the dragon is supposed to BUST open the building i flee too, but i just chill in there for about 30 mins, then CTRL ATL DEL

Open skyrim in windowed mode, LOW settings , 5 times in a row i get stuck on starting at Debby Downer the Nord, about ... 3? mins into cart ride *this happens every time now

Steps i have taken;
Remove all local content and re DL game (4 times)

Check for Mother board Drivers (all current)

Removed all video drivers, (that were current) to re-install the 10/31 release date package, GC 6900 Twin razor 2

the display driver says not properly installed (looking into it) * this is the ONLY thing i can hope will fix it *, time to waste 6 more hours of my time trouble shooting to get out of the INTRO

I feel really let down, Bought 1500+ in new comp parts (all new desktop, built myself on Nov 1 and have been playing the Wticher 2 FLAWLESSLY on ultra for a week)
