Cant run Rage (mbpro 2011 latest high end) FPS + Texture iss

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 3:32 am

Hi there,
did somenone know how to run Rage on my Macbook Pro ? Ill use Windows 7 x64 with the latest Servicepack and updates.

I have massive FPS issues and Texture popping and more. I want to play the Game but i cant :-( its unplayable.

My System
Macbook Pro latest Model
Intel Core I7 2,4Ghz
8 GB RAM
Crucial M4 SSD SATA-3
AMD Radeon Mobility 6770M 1024 MB VRAM
Windows 7 X64 Ultimate
Rage with latest Patch 1.2

My actual steps to solve the problem:
Ill tried more over 6 ATI Drivers different Version include many preview driver
Tried with and without a config file from forums and different websites
Tried with and without startup parameters
I run it on a SSD Hard Drive. There cant be a problem with Texture Streaming ?

There are Videos from Youtube, with no problems, same Macbook ? How does they make that work ?

Where are my fault ? I bought the game for 50 € and have a 2500 € Macbook Pro, but it didnt work :-(

Did someone know which driver and config i can use ? Or a simple workaround to play the game ? All anwers are welcome.

Thanks

Why are you running it through Windows 7 when Rage is available natively for Mac's?

Anyways, list of stuff:

1. AMD driver yadda yadda update latest etc etc
2. Texture popin is dependant on CPU speed, not the drive the game is installed to
3. Make sure to have a Rage cache folder; make a folder named "Rage" in this folder: C:\Users\ _ USERNAME _ \AppData\Local\id Software

Hi,
i run games on bootcamp because there are more games available and Mac Versions always suffer under compability and options.

1. I have tried the newest driver update and the preview driver
2. CPU is a fast Intel I7 there, why should it lag ?
3. Rage Cache Folder is created and in use

Thanks

How's the performance? ~30 fps or <10 fps?

The game performance is ~40-60 fps on my laptops HD 6650M at 1366x768
Fyi both my Laptop and Desktop use AMD Driver Cat version 12.3

FPS are about 10-15 FPS 1440x900 all options like vsync and Antisoptronic filtering is disabled. All other options are standard. No Config File or start parameters.
Textures load in 1-2 sec.

All other games work on highest details .
You use the lates ATI 12.4 ?

It has to be a driver issue. I'm afraid I can't help you further other than suggesting you try different drivers for the game, or some of the odd commands that seem to work for some people ("+set jobs_numThreads 0" as a launch property for the game in steam)

Yes my startup options like another thread:
+set com_SkipIntroVideo 1 +jobs_numThreads 0

I can only install drivers, that released after Nov 2011. That is the release date of my Macbook Pro. Older drivers dont work there.

Tried the drivers all mentionen in forums. 11.10 preview , preview 1-3 older an newer and the actual.

I upload a Video 2 youtube. avg. 10-15 Frames measured with Fraps

Okay, here's just a wild guess. I've uploaded the atioglxx.dll file for the ATi Catalyst 12.3 file here, and it might work for you.
I take it you know how to extract a .zip file, so download the file from the link below and extract the .dll file and put it here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\rage\

Or whatever your Rage-Steam folder is.
I can't guarantee it will help anything, but I suppose it's worth a try.

Did you try using +set com_safemode 1 in launch options?
Then remove it after running the game once.

I have a 2010 Mac Mini with Nvidia 320M and I bought Rage day 1. It played better on my Mac Mini, until the updates, than my Dell XPS.

Maybe update to the newest video driver but don't let Steam Patch the game. See if that works better. It did for my Mini, until I just gave up because of texture pop ins made me dizzy.
