Cant start a New Game! WTF!

Yeah thanks for contributing for the sole and only purpose of attacking a week-old post. You're welcome to provide any proof you have that the 4.0 update hasn't caused a single problem for any PS3 player.

Oh, I forgot about the time limit to respond to posts, thanks for reminding me. And you're welcome to provide proof that the 4.0 update has caused the same degree of freezing for other games that we are experiencing in Skyrim.

Here's one to get you started, you're welcome to apply basic Google skills to find more unless you really don't want the truth:

Well that convinced me, a total of about 10-15 people claiming that it was the 4.0 update that crashed a game they were playing. I mean that doesn't even begin to compare to the minuscule amount of PS3 Skyrim players having freezing and crashing problems. Skyrim crashed more for me in 2 hours than the total amount of crashes written about in that forum.

OK. Doesn't really mean a thing though as I've never claimed that all of the freezing was only 4.0's fault.

I have a real hard time believing that the 4.0 update has anything to do with the massive amounts of Skyrim constant and sustained crashes or freezing, if it did, you'd see the same amount of problems in other games.

no offense, but i find it kinda hard to believe that you had THAT much lag only 19 hrs in... I have over 100 hrs easy and almost 10 mb, and the only place i really lag in is whiterun, especially upon entrance.

Sorry it took a while but my GF came and Ive been going out a lot lately with her, some friends and also family christmas reunions. So here I go...

I started playing those minutes with just some lag. (3 to 5 seconds freezes). But when I reached Whiterun I got faced by a guard cause I killed a guard sometime ago. And I was going to get arrested. I let him arrest me to go to jail and game FROZE again completly. I left the game there for 1 hour to see what happened. Since it was a total freeze PS button didnt work, I hit eject button and the PS3 came back to normal. No STRANGE messages of corrupted files...

Tried loading the game again after that. And it took about 10 - 15 minutes again to load. This time I appeared under the floor??? I started to run and jump until I got back to the normal floor. I was in open wild around Whiterun.... and a lot of exclamation icons (!) appeared all over. I was like HUH!??!?!?! LAG was incredibly HIGH, NOT PLAYABLE... 30 seconds freezes every few steps until it finally crashed again...

Remember first save file load was ok, and I DIDNT save the first time so I was loading the same file again when this happened. So its an unmodified save file. I reload again and again 15 minutes to load, high lag every few steps. This time No exclamation points I saved to another file got on horse that I left close, and when I started running it totally crashed again... Removed the Game with eject button since the PS3 button didnt work and shelved the game for good....

Sorry but all this testing just certifies to me (and Im a PROGRAMMER) that this game is totally an unfinished product (this is my PROFESSIONAL opinion). I dont program games I mostly program System applications for Companies and SQL databases. Before I deliver my product I do a LOT of BETA TESTING... What happened Bethestha?

My findings so far and not testing anymore:

- Framerate issues
- lag Issues
- Write/Read operation issues
- File Corruption issues
- Creation of bad sectors (this not directly related to game, but instead to the users unplugging the PS3 instead of ejecting the GAME to make the PS3 shutdown itself).

All this at a 3.7 MB save file... only a few short hours of gameplay and a lvl 11 character.
So no... Its not just happening to 15MB save files...

Hope this gives some light, but I am sure that developers actually know everything that is wrong with the game... Cause if they didnt know, Bethesda really needs to change their employees....
At least thats what my BOSS WOULD DO....

Did you get this load from an auto save file ?

It seems that the system is loading from a corrupted file, wich obviously in any other game shouldn't happen, but since it's Beths coding it doesn't surprise me.

By the way do you know, in your experience, if an SSD could get a similar damage from a power spike ?

Boot the PS3 in Safe Mode and rebuild the filesystem… That should do. If it doesn't the PS3 should complain that your filesystem can't be rebuilt and needs to have the HDD reformatted.

i had crippling lag within the first 4-5 hours of the game on release day when i started playing, that day one save now gets barely any lag what so ever however it crashes like every hour so i had to stop playing my day one save. For some the lag is there constantly right from the beginning for others it takes time atm for stability so i can play without crashes Im playing an un patched version of the game but yet again the lag is there right from the beginning in helgen so i can believe he got lag so early in the game

SSD could have data corruption from an unexpected power loss but physical damage would be unlikely unless protection circuits failed, no more likely than in any other piece of electronic device with a mains derived power supply.

Ok First of all Thanks for everyone contributing. Here are my answers too all you questions and comments:

1. First time I used the Saved File didnt come out with the exclamation points, I actually was happy that lag was almost gone. Running pretty good. Then I got arrested and Hell went loose, since the game crashed. Second time I used the Saved File the Big Yellow Exclamation points came out. 3rd Time Nothing but lag was horrible and game crashed again after a while...

2. SSD Do NOT suffer from Bad Blocks since its not a Magnetic Disc, its as the name explains a Solid State Disk. You could compare it to a BIG USB Pendrive. Yet its suceptible to corruption on terms of if you are saving and game crashes game file could be corrupted if didnt finish saving correctly.

3. I had LAG since I started the GAME, It was a surprise for me didnt know what was happening at first then the game was almost unplayable and searched google and find this forum. Now game is shelved.

4. NO I dont have issues with any other game. I even installed DC Universe and I can play it smoothly. NO CRASHES AND NO LAG. I say this because it was installed and played after Skyrim, and after repairing the HDD still no issues. Playing FFXIII now thou... SInce I had it shelved for a year without never playing it.

5. Already Restored HDD, copy saved files to USB Pendrive, Delete everything Skyrim related, reinstalled, updated then Look at #1 in this list.

Any other things ask me.

Thanks everyone!! :D

this reminds me of a post that member posted a while back on how every time he went to jail or even tried to enter the jails himself the game would just hang up and freeze which also lead that member to the conclusion there was corruption in the save involving the jails boundaries because if i remember correctly after his game play got worse in stability and if i remember correctly it was dragons reach that this happened with first to i think. It is a vague memory of reading something very similar to this before on these forums only this member didn't get exclamation marks

Use the backup utility in system settings and do a full HDD format, then use the restore utility.

Thanks man, But I am done Testing this game... I am not supposed to do this for a Company that doesnt pay me, actually I pay the company for a game that doesnt work. All my other games work without any problems. So that tells me my PS3 system is ok.

Ill start Testing again after update comes out. If update doesnt repair anything Ill just trade the game back for credit to get Amalur...

I've never had any problems with the firmware update at all. All of my games run normally and don't crash on me. Only Skyrim does. I'm 25 hours in, file size about 7MB and I can only play for a few hours before needing to save and quit the game to stop the lag. I've completed the main story and the Civil war (I just flew through the story because I was Season Unending quest locked last time).
