Caravan Card Game and Merchants = unlimited Caps

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 10:09 am

I agree something should be changed about merchants that play caravan. Maybe give them a limit on how much money they can gamble with in a given amount of time. As it is now, you can simply buy the merchants entire stock of items and then take back all of your caps playing caravan.

Its easy to win loads at blackjack too, just save every couple of thousand and re-load if things go bad,
I think they should bring in poker in future dlc, imagine playing against bots/ghouls/mutants and being able to challenge winners/losers/cheater to duels like in red dead? Strip poker like dead rising 2 where you can win special equipment off of npc's?

For some reason every time I would play caravan none of the NPC's bet any money. How do I get this to work?

Caravan isn't a broken game, but the AI for it is. See, it's easy to dominate using the 7,8,9 trick because the opponent never uses their face cards to mess up your caravans. If they're even coming close to making a good caravan you can toss a king on their highest card to make them go bust, or a jack or joker to take needed cards away. Your opponent never does this.

The game would be much more challenging if your opponent messed up your caravans once they hit the sold range. I imagine it would also be more challenging against a human player as well.

Also, is it me or do the suites not matter at all for the cards, as was implied? I can pretty much stack anything on anything as long as the sequence is right.

I cannot play caravan at all, it's not because I svck but because of a glitch, I think, you see everything goes fine at first. I bet, choose my deck, and choose the cards to start my caravan, but after that I cannot place any cards on top of the beginning ones unless its a queen. I have no idea what is going on, I tried placing cards of the same suit, different suit, higher number, lower number, and every other type of card but only queen can go on top of any cards. Any other card I try to put on top just won't go on it no matter what I do, it's just a red rectangle when I try to put it on. I really need help because I think caravan could be a really fun game but I think my game is glitched and/or I am a huge noob at this. Sorry to sorta hi-jack this thread but I see no reason to create a new one for this if this one is kind of similar.

Yes, I also could not figure it out for some time. You have to press up or down to choose a place for a new card. When a card is shown over another, you are attaching a face to 2-10 or Ace.

You can add cards according to sequence OR suite. It means that you can add a card which is out of sequence if it is of the same suit as the last card in caravan.

Yeah, it's a bug. The amount you ante is never taken away from your total caps so, you get your ante plus the other players ante when you win.

I like Caravan but it is unbalanced.

For one thing, the AI isn't any good at it. It never plays face cards against the player, it doesn't build good decks, and it often goes over 26 by itself for no reason. Cards are also too easy to find.

There should be a limit on the max bets a merchant makes, instead of basically 1/3 or 1/2 of his/her caps. Maybe 250 is the max bet for most merchants.
