Caravan: The Next Big Card Game.

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 2:42 am

Just cause we don't have too much to talk about.......
So what do you guys hope Caravan will be like? Are you gonna play it or will you stick to blackjack and the slots? If you do like it will you teach it to your friends? Discuss! :grad:

I hope it's poker-esque. I might play it outside of the game if I like it, but I don't think I'd say where I learned how.

I'd like for it to be very similar to Poker, but this is what I assume Caravan will play like.

Each player gets four cards. Each turn a player draws a card from the deck and must sacrifice one of the cards in his hand in order to keep the level at four cards. Once the deck has been completely drained, all players show their hands. Whomever has the highest hand (2-A. Aces being the highest value card, 2 being the lowest value card) wins.

I assume it is going to be played with a traditional card deck?

Maybe it is a card-shedding type game for points, like Hearts or Spades? We know that you play against other wastelanders, but I suppose that is all we know.

Of course, we could be totally surprised and it turns out to be the world's first post-apocalyptic trading card game. "I don't care if the base is guarded by a battalion and the lower levels are filled with radiation, companion! I need that rare card to complete my deck! Onward!"

I imagine money is involved, and some form of bets are made, or cash paid out to the winner according to points gained. The real question is - will everyone play fair? Or will some cheat? And what about sore losers? Will you win against someone only to have them pull a shotgun on you after ward? Pressing questions.

throwing this out there...my buddies and i used to play a dice game called "ship, cap'n, crew". basically, you had to roll a six, five, and four before you could score any points, and the remaining dice were your points. i've heard of card games with a similar premise...you need so many face cards, or cards of the same suit, before you can get into the real meat of the game.

I hoping it will be fun to play in-game and out of game. the collector's edition is supposed to come with a deck of cards and instructions on how to play. If it's any fun Ill teach my friends to play and we'll have caravan nights.

Seeing as how it is a new game that Obsidian invented just for New Vegas, I'm pretty sure they'll explain how to play.

Oh, and totally non related, how would you like to have a friendly little poker game?

Seriously, poker is great, and not that hard to learn. The Texas Hold'em variant is even easier than the regular game, and more popular at the moment. My buddies and I wasted a lot of time playing poker when I was in the Marines, and it's the only time I've ever played for money. $20 ante per hand. That's pretty damn rich for someone who only played with pennies or candy previously, but I always did okay, even got some extra beer money for the weekend sometimes.

its going to be a deadly version of texas holdem.
The cards are weapons. first person to embed a royal flush in the opponents gut wins.

I'm just hoping it's easy to find people hosting caravan games out in the desert. Kinda hoping it's like poker though.

Yeah, I'm hoping it's more like Quazar(for those of you that don't know, it was pretty much Pazaac in Mass Effect). It doesn't really seem like anyone knows anythng about Caravan yet so it's all up into air.

XD That would be funny.

Considering poker will probably not make an appearance in game. I hope it's like poker too. Also it would be easier to play with friends if it's like poker.

Tragic the Garnering is the most addictive thing since Jet. - Wooz
Well, Tragic the Garnering isn’t just a game -- it’s an obsession. Not a cologne, either. Some think that the way it changes a person’s life is tragic, but they just don’t understand. - Wooz

Would be interesting to see a reference to it.

We played a game once when we were kids called Caravan. The deck is placed in the center of the table after everyone is dealt four cards. Top card is taken off the deck and first player plays a card higher or lower than that card, but in order, i.e., a 5 or 7 on a 6. If a player has no cards then you draw until you do. The player with the most cards at the end of the game loses. There was bit more to it than that but that is all I remember.

I hope its a poker type card game. Maybe even exactly like Texas Hold'em except with a different name. I don't know, I guess the casinos would feel 'empty' without it.

I did not understand that game, they needed better instructions.

I hope its definately more poker oriented and its actually fun to play.

Off of the wiki:
"It can be played with any standard deck of cards, but the Fallout: New Vegas Collector's Edition's deck would make the experience complete."
So it can be played with a standard deck.
