Carmack knew what could happen

They didn't expect a cluster[censored] wiht the dirivers on such a scale ... they were stressed out to say that they're not supporting PC ... but deep down they're pissed and probably sad.

The most important link (doom 4):

I'll be back in some later days to check if patch arrived. I can feel it's going to be a huge patch (for sake of reputation if not sales or "care" for this platform) ... they obviously aren't spinning wheels as i can gather so im in standby mode.

More to the point, we were given plenty of advance warning about some of the issues the PC version would have: http://www.vg247.com/2011/08/04/quakecon-2011-carmacks-legendary-keynote-live-from-8pm-bst/

Apparently, RAGE has pop-in issues if you turn around quickly, which is the “reality of how the tech works,” according to Carmack..... artists were pretty much “crushed” when they had to compress all the textures for it to work on consoles..... id had issues getting RAGE up to 60fps on PC, despite the format having “ten times as much power” as consoles. However, using reactive rendering, it slowly scaled the resolution to fix the framerate issue; however, if something unexpected happens, things can go wonky..... id decided to up RAGE’s frame rate instead of its graphics..... admits that textures up close don’t look all that great in RAGE..... the team used regular lighting and post-processing in RAGE. Post-processing “mucks up” pixels sometimes, he said.....

Nobody can say that the information wasn't there. Nobody can say that they were decieved.

I was glad to see the interview and now I understand more of the decision making process. Going to forget the past and look forward to what great things that id has in-store for PC gaming. Can hardly wait to get the patch :tops:

The wining and complaining is getting repetitive and boring anyways

I don't have the link, but look at the date of your interview - there was a MUCH more current interview (believe it was last month) where Carmack admitted that they will be focusing on the console because the numbers are vastly more profitable... I wish this were true, but it just is old info at this point (I know the link is in the forums somewhere, but I don't remember where specifically).

Edit:
While looking for the link...

Carmack: "You can choose to design a game around the specs of a high-end PC and make console versions that fail to hit the design point, or design around the specs of the consoles and have a high-end PC provide incremental quality improvements," Carmack replied. "We chose the latter."

Hopes that "incremental patches" will come out to improve the PC 'experience'... nothing to see here, move along, come back and play rage in 6 months . . . (probably a DLC texture pack, only 14.99... eff*bomb*)

I knew from the start that this game has great potential and really huge potential - when i played it the idea strengthend a bit but it also introduced me new stuff that i saw needs to be fixed.

If just the modding tools be released oh come on.

shushshash... there might also be a commercial reason x64 bit executable is not released ... since editor depends on it, there's no point of releasing the editor either.

Not sure what your trying to say to me? I keep reading dissatisfied gamers posts, and they keep repeating the same things over and over again, but in different ways. If the devs at id don't know what everyone's upset about by now, there never going to know, and were all just wasting are time.

I was all so trying to say I understand the decision make process better after seeing the interview, but that doesn't mean I necessarily agree with their decisions. Thank You for posting it!

I am pretty happy with the game, but of coarse I would like to see better textures and stuff, thats why said I am looking forward to the patch.....
