Carriage cost

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 3:20 am

Does anyone think that the cost of a carriage is too cheap considering that they transport you through very dangerous locations?

I mean, If I walk from Riften to Marcarth, I encounter at least two dozen wolves. Now while this isn't a problem for my character, I can't help but think it would be for a carriage with nothing guarding it.

Also, I think it would help make the world feel bigger if the carriage was too expensive to be viable for a period of time during the start of the game. Perhaps 200 septims for a short trip and 500 for a longer one?

In a game design sense this would force exploration and might avoid some of the complaints people have about the length of certain quest lines?

Please don't take this as a complaint, more so an observation.

I think they're too expensive IMHO. Especially some of THE smallest provinces in Skyrim cost 50 Gold?! (Morthal, Markarth, etc.)

50g for Morthal? You're insane?

And to go to Solitude it's 20g? How does THAT make sense...

The costing does make no sense. But 20gold is such a tiny amount. I mean you can find 5 or 10 gold just floating around doing nothing. How is it viable as a business considering the trip takes about 10hrs from Whiterun to Solitude?

It would have been nice if it was based upon distance traveled. Lord knows that I (or should I say we) need some sort a moneysink to spend our piles of Septims on.

I think it depends on how hard it is to get there, i.e. how rough the terrain is. Solitude's road terrain is fairly safe and easy to navigate through, compared to the route to Morthal or Winterhold or Dawnstar. Morthal is surrounded by a swamp, Winterhold and Dawnstar are barriered by mountains.

But how does 50 gold warrant a trip to Morthal?

Through the snowy peaks is the most dangerous place to go, and if I had a quest in the same place, I'd be annoyed to be paid 100gold, so 50 is a joke!

50 gold roughly equates to looting 3-8 Ruined Urns inside a Nordic ruin. To me, the cost is trivial.

If it were me, I would have bumped up the price to 200 gold for travel to the major cities, and 300 gold for places like Morthal. That way it would make the player determine if the cost justified the time saved at lower levels.

The cost is 20 for a city with stables. 50 if the city doesn't have it's own stables. It does make some sense

This is exactly my point.
