Seems like all the heroes of my childhood are dying. There's too many to even think of over the past year, but this feels especially incongruous.

Last night I was thinking that since we hadn't heard anything over the past three days, she was probably going to pull through. R.I.P., Carrie ... though I'll always think of you as Princess Leia.

There's a disturbance in the Force today...

She was a vibrant lady, and Princess Leia was an indelible part of my childhood. RIP

I don't think 2016 has taken more than the usual amount of celebrities than any other year.

Still, this svcks! Now they're gonna have to do some serious changes to the next star wars. Rip Carrie. Always a fan since I was a child.

Princess Leia was the first screen crush I ever had.

She will be sorely missed.

RIP Carrie

Sigh, Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was my favorite movie when I first saw it in theaters.

I really enjoyed The Force Awakens. I enjoyed the fact that she had more than one string to her bow, she'll be missed.

Apparently, she already did some filming for episode 8.

I just hope they tastefully handle that she's gone now.

This is very sad news. Right now I feel most sorry for Debbie Reynolds. As a parent, I think the worst thing on earth must be to see a child die. I hope she's doing all right.

I was holding out some hope, but after finding out how long it took to get a response to the cpr, I didn't have much to hold.

I second Pluto's statement.

She was not only the daughter of Debbie Reynolds. She was also the daughter of 1950's singing heartthrob Eddie Fisher.

It's sad to be writing those sentences in the past tense.

Sort of off topic but I just checked a list of celebrities who died last year and this year. And I counted 53 for 2015 including big names like Terry Pratchett Christopher Lee and BB king including many more.

2016 comparatively has 29 at my last count. So really no more than usual and substantially less than last year.

This hits me very hard. I was at the first New York showing of Star Wars at the Astor Plaza theater on the morning of May 25, 1977. So I feel like I've followed Carrie Fisher's career since the very beginning. And now I've seen it end.

I'm going to dig out my ancient LaserDiscs of the pre-Special Edition original trilogy, my DVD of The Force Awakens, make tons of popcorn, curl up on the couch under a warm blanket and hold a Star Wars marathon in her honor.

I don't recall the exact date, but I still remember queueing up outside the cinema when a friend's dad took a bunch of us to see it when it came out; I would've been all of nine years old, but I still remember the mix of excitement and impatience!
