Carving Pumpkins

Post » Fri Oct 05, 2012 6:08 pm

I don't know about anyone else but I love carving pumpkins. Even if I don't do anything else for Halloween, I always want to atleast carve a pumpkin. With the correct knives you can get them looking pretty amazing and even turn them into a sort of art.

Is anyone else a total fan of pumpkin carving? I was thinking, maybe we can post and share photos of our carved pumpkins. Doesn't matter whether they're good or bad, I think it would be cool to see them.

I love carving pumpkins and my skills have been increasing. It also helps I'm a very artistic person. I'm hoping to do something a bit more "fancy" thia year.

I am too. I'm thinking about passing on the usual faces and doing some sort of other art into it. I can get the faces looking pretty wicked but I have some other ideas in mind.

Last year I just made some face and detailed it by peeling off some of the skin.

That's a pretty cool idea. How'd you get the skin off? Like a carrot peeler or something?

I can't remember the last time I've touched a pumpkin. I have yet to taste one as well, and I'd love to try pumpkin pie. Carved pumpkins are awesome if done well, and if I had the artistic skill to do so I'd probably do it. :hehe:

I just used a knife and sliced off the skin. It made it look like the teeth were actually in the mouth.

The one on the right is easily the best.

That's a pretty common technique. Some pumpkin carvers can get pretty creative with their skins that way. http://ceemdee.deviantart.com/gallery/

As for myself, I don't think I carved any pumpkins last year, but I'm quite certain I did the year before that. It was pretty fun.

The only type of pumpkin I've ever seen with my bare eyes and touched is http://www.odeum.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/pumpkin-butternut.jpg. Yeah we're not really big on pumpkins over here, and we don't really even celebrate Halloween. Just changing my avatar here on the forums is really doing more than I've done any other year to recognize this holiday

Given the opportunity to try my hand at pumpkin carving I most certainly would give it a try though :)

I just stick to faces, notihng crazy but I want the face to look creepy and just unsettling, watching you wherever you go.

Im thinking of doing a maya/aztec like mask or figure.

Possibly Xipe Totec "Our Lord the Flayed One".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Xipe_Totec_mask_Louvre_MH_78-1-60.jpg

Notice the indentations near the mouth and eyes? Xipe Totec was mostly depicted as a man wearing another person's skin, well that outline is the mouth and eye holes of the second skin I believe.

Best one I ever did was the slayer logo. I was pretty proud of myself.
