1.3 causes badly flickering weapons and shields!

Post » Sat May 19, 2012 4:52 am

Just installed 1.3 after 70+ with rock solid weapons/shields.... but now after 1.3, disc or HDD, whenever I draw a weapon or raise my shield, it is FLICKER CENTRAL on the drawn weapons! It is more easily seen with weapons like the Elven mace. The whole top of the mace just flickers and vibrates like crazy! Same thing with my glass 1H axe. Can anyone please try this out and confirm this? I just press Continue to my previous save game that was 1.1, draw my weapon and top shakes like mad... really ruins the immersion. This is on a Slim with a 320GB HDD.

Guess I have to wait for 1.4. :( I am seriously thinking of patching back to 1.1 from USB or some other method and just finishing the game with 1.1. This is ridiculous. I already skipped 1.2 due to the other issues so I haven't been playing for a week. So disappointing.

Just so you know any saves you make on 1.3 will not work on 1.1. I never upgraded to 1.3 but this is just another reason for me not to.

If you press Wait which blurs and freezes the background, the flickering and vibration is EVEN WORSE! Try it with something like an Elven mace with the sky as the backdrop. In the game proper it flickers badly, but press Wait and the flicker going into OVERDRIVE.

Any tips are welcome.

Noticed this while playing earlier, though it was limited to Steel Swords for me.

Lucky you... it does it to me with EVERYTHING. I think you're just not noticing. They needed to keep the mechanics of the game as they were on 1.1 and just patch quests.

Have you tried clearing cache, uninstall the game (if it is), repatch then reinstall? or easier t/s to just restart?

Happens on both my consoles and two TVs, including one with no cache at all because data was just transferred to it with the transfer cable. And it happens both installed and never installed. I noticed that depending on what direction you are facing (i.e. what else is on the screen) it becomes more or less noticeable. In some orientations, I could swear it is gone... but turn 90 degrees and its back in force, and always worse if you press Wait. Whatever they did with textures in 1.2 and 1.3 was a very bad move. Now I'm desperate to get back to 1.1 somehow. But thanks for the help attempt.

if you are playing unpatched 1.2 and 1.3 changes will not affect you if you are still seeing this issue without patches something else is entirely wrong.

What are you talking about, they are both patched to 1.3. Nowhere did I say this was with an unpatched version. I played 1.1 for 70+ hours without any flickering weapons so I know what the hell I am seeing, and I am so pissed at Bethesda right now.

Clear cache, do not patch and check, if it persist its not the patch. if you havent tried to reload the patch/install then try that if you have like as stated try unpatched and see if it is happening unpatched. As of right now i havent heard of many cases of people that are affected by this (this does not mean this isnt an issue but troubleshooting doesnt hurt any).

I'm getting the same thing... but it's not bugging me like you.

I've had it since 1.1... never seemed that HUGE to me but it does need fixing.

UPDATE: Does NOT happen after first Fast Travel. Also, ONLY happens outside. When I see it, I am loading the a save outside in Rorikstead in the rain. Flicker galore on my mace, worse on Wait screen. Go inside, no flicker, go outside, flicker. Fast travel to Whiterun, still raining but no flicker. Go back to Rorikstead, no more rain, no more flicker, not even on Wait menu.

WHEW....

Maybe you should have tried fast traveling and such Before coming here and flipping out. Just an idea....

Since I patched to 1.3 I've noticed some flickering, but not on my weapons. I see it on the landscapes. I seem to notice most pronounced when I fast travel to Whiterun. Just after loading screen I'll notice sections of the ground and my house will flicker white. It's over in a second and I don't see it the rest of time I'm running around town. I never saw that before 1.3...

Had that happen once to me too, with 1.1 .... save, reload or try travel to a different location.

I think I'm getting the same thing as you... when my bow sometimes disappears briefly (flickers), it looks almost as if I'm turning invisible for a second and mainly happens when I go into a crouch or initially draw my weapon.

Edit: Oh yeh this has only started since I installed the 1.3 patch last night.
