I pay £7.50 a month for something I hardly use. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Likewise, I pay $20/mo for mine and hardly use it. Not a smartphone either.

$60? All you pay is $60 and are complaining that it's a high bill? Are you kidding? I'd kill to have a bill that LOW. My wife and I are paying $200 a month in cell phone bills. When your bill is that high then you can complain. Until then, be quiet.

Smartphone - Wife
Smartphone - Myself
Texting phone - My son

Both smart phones are grandfathered into the "unlimited plan" by Verizon. All three phones have unlimited texting.

... why do you have 5 phones?

Edit: I barely use my phone. When I do, I'll top up £10 for free texts and internet a month. After that month, my provider has an offer where you can spend £5 and get a month free texts. I do this twice, and I get 3 months of free texts. I don't use the phone or the internet on it. Not a smart phone.

Although, I've not topped up since early November.

You're probably seriously overpaying. Two phones for $200 is ridiculous. You should seriously consider looking at family plans to cut that cost down.

Assuming your kid's phone isn't a smartphone, you're paying more than you'd pay if you were to get two independant smartphones($90 a pop per month on their current offering for 2 GB). You seem to only be "grandfathered" into being swindled out of your money, because it doesn't look like you are getting any company or family discount at all to me. IIRC $80 $80 $50 was the going rate a year or so ago for two standalone smartphones and a standalone regular phone on Verizon. Which is $10 less than what you're paying yet you should be be getting a family plan discount and a company discount....

You guessed correctly. The family plan is in my name so I pay $230 and then try to collect a reimbursemant from my family each month.

You're preaching to the choir here. I know my wife and I are being [censored]. We've got two smartphones and one standard phone. We've been to Verizon to figure out why the bill is this high and we get no answers or options. Hell, we tried canceling on them and were told if we want out its' $725 to cancel. We had our plans all setup with AT&T, two iPhones and a standard phone was going to be $112 a month through AT&T. When the pompous Verizon guy said told us how much it was going to be to cancel our contracts I told him to go [censored] himself and that we'd wait till our contract was up to cancel.

Yes, Canadian charges are outrageous. I came across a table some months ago that compared countries' mobile costs. Canada came in behind a lot of third world countries, even; that is, they were even more expensive, for even less benefit. That's shameful.

I pay $25 for the smart phone contract per month, $0.125 per minute of call time and $0.05 per text.

Yup, me too. I'm usually not much of a talker so I only use sms and 2 minute calls to let people know when I'm running late. That and my 4 year old phone runs out of battery within a couple of minutes of actively doing something with it.

Sadly such things happen much more often than people dare to admit (though I've never heard of a case this outrageous), out of shame I suppose. It's the reason why I only ever use pre-paid phones, it may not be the very cheapest option there is but at least I am always in control of my money.

Sorry. Don't recall pissing in your cereal this morning. I find it odd that I'm not the only one who has said that I pay more than the OP yet, you've made it a point to target me with a snide comment. So, who killed your dog? Someone steal your girl/boy friend? I never said that "I have greater issues than anyone" so, what's your issue?

Apparently, punctuation and capitalization was lost on you? Seems like you have one issue that beats me.

My wife and I thought about going the prepaid route but again, we need to wait for our contract to be up before we make any decisions.

My bill is like 55$ a month. I have to pay 15cents a text except for my "fab five" (free calling and texting to five people) :|, it can build up really fast but at least I get a decent amount of data and phone usage per month and I can avoid texting charges through facebook messages and stuff sometimes.

I pay $39.95 per month (pre-paid) for unlimited talk & text to anyone on any network as long as they aren't in any country besides Australia. I also get free social networking. All of this on an iPhone 3. I LOVE not being on a plan.

I pay 10-15EUR per month (pay as you go). 15EUR if I buy 300mb of internet, because that costs me 5EUR for one month's worth. 10EUR for texts and calls, but I mostly text using Whatsapp nowadays.

Pre-paid, meaning how much do you pre-pay, inctead of getting a bill?

My bill is never seen of. I may call someone once a day, but that's it, so it's usually less than 2€. However, one time it cost 150€ and I though.. wtf is going on.. Turns out my phone had, without me knowing, downloaded some kind of update that cost 150€. (maybe)
