challenge: Nettlebane

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:59 am

I'm doing all the quests without personally killing anything, no human, animal, undead etc. I do not use companions as well.

So far it worked, even though sometimes it's not that easy to find a way (most used magic: Fury, Calm, Heal). Today I had a very difficult one: the Hagraven holding the Nettlebane needed by Danica in Whiterun. She (apparently) doesn't move from her tent on top of a rock, and shots fire as soon as you're in sight.

Well, I managed :) I have the Nettlebane and my record after 9 quests is still: 1 killed animal and 0 of everything else. The only kill I did so far is the spider in the room where you rescue Arvel the Swift. On that case there was no apparent way to proceed without killing it.

So, guess how I did with the Hagraven (p.s. pickpocketing doesn't work) :)

You managed the witches to kill the Havagren for you?

Wrong for all the three :)

Indeed I tried with Fury to see if the other witches could kill her, but they didn't dare to cross the wooden bridge to her tent.

You gave her an elemental resist poison and had her kill herself with close-range fireball splash damage.

You shielded yourself with Spellbreaker, then cast a reflect damage spell. Hmm, not even sure if "reflect damage" is in the game. Haven't seen that one yet LOL, but hey, it sounds good!

But wow, hats off to you! Not personally killing anything! I am quite the opposite. I am in my foe's face with my dual Deadric blades lol I just love the fatality moves hahaha ;)

You calmed her and then spoke to her and she traded with you? Playing without killing anything sounds super fun. That's sort of what I'm doing now except instead of not killing anything, I sort of kill everyone. Erm. So maybe it's the complete opposite, but still I'm trying to level Illusion since I love calming people before slitting their throats.

Ok, time for solution :)

First problem was reaching her without being killed by her fire (two shots of it, and I was dead). I'm still a lvl 15, playing on Expert, not so many spells available and very vulnerable. I used Muffle to move silently and one invisible potion. With those two I almost reached her without being seen. As soon as she saw me, I run behind her tent, and kept in the opposite side of the tent, until my status went back to "hidden". Once hidden I sneaked behind her and tried pickpocketing without chance, therefore I attacked her with a knife. I noticed that two shots with the knife left her a bit confused, leaving me time to repair again behind the tent. Rinse and repeat, I brought her HP to very low, and at that point she started to flee away. Her pattern was to run in the opposite direction as me, stop, turn towards me, receive my next knife in the face, turn again and run. In this way I literally drove her in the place behind the bridge, where I knew there was a magic rune trap. Minutes later -bang- she felt in the trap and the Nettlebane was in my hand.

Was pretty difficult, but fun ;-)

I think that any court in the land would probably find you guilty of killing her. Maybe Hagslaughter at least.

LOL true, true. But still, the challenge is to keep clean sheets on the crime record. As a sign of respect, I didn't left her body lying on underwear :)

Not sure but if you acquire the Unrelenting Shout

The NPCs will kill the dragon for you if you give them enough time and assistance. Once the NPCs kill the dragon the other 2 words can be acquired without killing.

All 3 words will throw most enemies that are human in size backwards a good distance.
