A Chance Arrangement Bug

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 4:23 am

On my second playthrough, I decided to join the Thieves Guild. I had already joined the faction in my previous playthrough with no problems, but something must have gone wrong during the quest "A Chance Arrangement." I planted the ring and talked to Brynjolf, where afterwards the quest markers indicated to speak to him again in the tavern. However, he never leaves to go to the tavern and even if I use console commands to reset him there he will only say "Hmm?" I hoped that with the latest patch this problem would be fixed, but it has yet to be. I've looked up any and all solutions that I could try via the command console already. Please help me, I really want this character to join the thieves guild and this bug has created a roadblock. I already read on various sites that this bug has occurred to others as well. If you need my saved game, just tell me where to post it

Edit: Whoops I just realized you read the other guy's post..

I guess you tried this, but I'll post it just in case  It's from the wiki.

Brynjolf won't finish creating his distraction in the Market. The effect is that everyone will remain in the center of the market plaza, being told the "news" repeatedly and Brynjolf will not move, therefore not going to the Ragged Flagon to meet you for the next quest.
  • May be caused by:
    • Completing the quest but not moving forward to the next Thieves Guild quest immediately
    • Planting the ring at night
    • Speaking with Brynjolf before his distraction is finished.
  • May be solved by:
    • Console command clearquestaliases TG00SP.
    • Stand by the right corner and use the shout http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Slow_Time. This can cause Brynjolf to walk to the Ragged Flagon.
    • Trick/Force Brynjolf:
      • Push Brynjolf to the door to The Ratway (by either sprinting at him or using the Unrelenting Force shout, then yielding to or healing him).
      • Tell any followers you have to wait in Riften, save, then activate the door and quickly talk to Brynjolf. If this does not work, reload and retry.
      • Once you're in The Ratway with Brynjolf, attack him and run to The Ragged Flagon. Once inside, have him chase you all the way up to the bar, then yield.
      • Talk to Brynjolf quickly, before he can leave to go back to his stall, and he will give you the next part of the quest.

Just found this too:

1) find Brynjolf
2) press ~ to open up console
3) click on brynjolf's face
4) press ~ again to close console
5) go through rataway and and enter ragged flaggon
6) open console and type in: moveto player

after you done that, turn around and catch Brynjolf before he walks away

and this:

press ~ to open the console. Then type setstage TG01 10. It will reset the quest and make him move.

Hopefully one of them works..

Tried all of those already :( He will walk around freely, but no matter where he is the only dialogue he gives is "Hmm?" I've reset him and the quest, but no dice. I also tried skipping over that part of the quest, but the members wont recognize the quest as completed and that I'm a member.

Is there a way I can submit my saved game and someone can alter it somehow to fix the issue?

Sort of fixed it- The quest is still there in all its bugged glory, but I used the command console to start the quest after this one. I was able to join the thieve's guild and continue on with their quests, but the only annoying part is having this one pesky quest stuck in my quest journal now.

You know, it really upsets me that the game is still so full of bugs, it's embarrassing (or should be for Beth).
Especially since they're already taking about DLC...
I mean wait a minute - what about the basic, messy, bugged-out game!?
I'm STILL encountering new bugs (some of them really problematic) on my second playthrough with Level ~60 guy.

If Beth's still working, then I'm patient.
But when they're talking about premature DLC, that worries me...
Oh well, fingers crossed.
