Changing skyrimprefs Value's.

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 10:32 pm

Hey everyone, i'm new to this whole thing but i've been looking through the skyrimprefs.ini file and found some different paramiters.

bShowFloatingQuestMarkers=1
bShowQuestMarkers=1

These first two i've tried changing to '0' but for me that doesn't disable to quest markers like it should? Any clues as to why?

Also the fact that always run was constantly on. Turns out it was set as the default setting.
bAlwaysRunByDefault=1.
Changing that value to '0' seems to actually fix that so i could choose when i wanted to run right from the get go.

Apart from that the only other thing i changed was how often the game autosaved itself. Which i increased from every fifteen minutes upto every half hour. Since i haven't really suffered from any stability issues i didn't see the need to save every fifteen minutes.
This setting is 'fAutosaveEveryXMins=30.0000'.

But yeah the main reason for this post was for some input on as to why the showquest variabled don't seem to affect my game. So any idea's anyone? :)

Update: Just edited fHUDOpacity=1.0000 down to '0.5000' Now the HUD isn't so obvious and in your face. Makes immersion into the game just that little bit easier. :)

EDIT: Nevermind, I didn't read your full post. I'm tired right now; 4AM where I live.

Thank you!

I did have both open. Turns out i changed the auto run and auto save time in the Documents\Games prefs. I changed the quest markers in the game directory ini though.

Shall see now if it removes them :). They've begun to bug me already. Haha :)

Quick update. That removed the annoying floating quest marker and also the quest marker from the compass. So it's atleast a tiny bit more immersive for the part time. :)

I found that removing quest markers caused the game to become extremely confusing since the journal is pretty bad and only lists the goal of the quest, not the description (e.g. "Steal *specific item* and bring it to *person*", but no textual description of their whereabouts).

There is a setting in the .ini that allows you to remove the compass, though, and I found this to be a nice trade-off for keeping quest markers since not having the compass means undiscovered dungeons and caves don't show up, and you'll have to find them yourself, and you can still bring up your map to see where quests require you to go.
