Character Build Help Mage/Thief and some questions

Hi all,

I just installed Morrowind and expansions with graphics overhaul compilation and I can't believe how good it looks now. I am so excited and I want to play it again (last time I played was in 2005).

I forgot a lot about morrowind and I am looking through all the helpful threads I can find on starting again and I found a lots of great hints/tips.

I want to play following char: He is Dark Elf who use magic and stealth and can use light armor and short/long blade with bow/crossbow support. He also want to make his own potions and enchant the items.

So I came with following:

Race: Dark Elf

Birth Sign: The Mage or The Apprentice : As I will not be hardcoe mage is this OK?

Specialization: Magic

Favorite Attributes: Endurance, Luck (or Intelligence?) - I read a lot about Luck being very helpful and hard to raise. What do you think?

Major Skills
Illusion (invisibility, chameleon etc )
Alteration (shielding spells, just general utility spells )
Mysticism (Teleporting, Soul Trapping etc )
Restoration (Conjuration?) - What to do here? Restoration is nice to have and Conjuration gives me summoned creatures that can be used for many things?
Security

Minors Skills
Light Armor - I will use only light armor so ....
Alchemy - must have for my play
Enchant - must have again
Marksman - For killing at range. Should this be in Major instead of Security?
Long Blade (or Short Blade?) - Hmm really don't know what to do here..... Long blades are most common in Morrowind ... Short Blades goes more with my char... Please help.

So, what I would like to do is to play this character till the end while doing as much as I can in game. I know that I will have a hard time with Speechcraft skill but I will try to raise it somehow. I remember other skills like sneak, acrobatic and so easy to level. I want to be able to unlock most of the doors/chest in game. But I don't want to look much as how I will level. Powerplay tends to ruin my enjoyment in any game...

What do you think? Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Furthermore, In Seyda Neen, is it possible to open some of the house doors that are locked without being seen? Seems rather impossible with so may guards/ppl.

Thank you all once again in advance for trying to help me. Sorry for my bad English (not my native language).

Best regards,
Aarionn

i look at the first 10 skills as defining a PC. you aware that the game allows us to use all skills in the game. the goal is to have fun. have thought about playing as a stock nightblade? it seems the build you mention comes close to being a stock nightblade.

anyway, enjoy the game.

Have you considered the Atronach? It's the best Spell Absorption effect you can get in the game, and the Wombburn will easily be compensated for by your alchemy (homemake restore magicka). Imagine it - virtually 50% immune to magicka attacks from level 1!

Favorite Attributes: Endurance, Luck (or Intelligence?) - I read a lot about Luck being very helpful and hard to raise. What do you think?

Perfect choices - higher endurance from the go, plus early multipliers in endurance, can really help out your long-term health. Also, I always choose Luck as a favorite, and give it a point each level-up until it's maxed. As they say - it's better to be lucky than good!

Long Blade (or Short Blade?) - Hmm really don't know what to do here..... Long blades are most common in Morrowind ... Short Blades goes more with my char... Please help.

There are many, many totally awesome shortblades. I love shortblade for a stealthy character. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Keening, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tribunal:Dagger_of_Symmachus, Fang of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Fang_of_Haynekhtnamet, etc.... Or enchant your own! The ebony shortsword and stalhrim dagger are my favorite shortblades to enchant.

Short blades are perfect for a thief or mage and aside from the higher end models noted above, you can get a bound dagger (very fast, 20 damage and a skill boost) right away.
