No Chat Thread?

Post » Sun May 13, 2012 3:32 am

On some other forums there are stickied threads in which one can discuss any general topic with others. So I am wondering why this forum does not have one, I would like to see a thread like this.

Because, it's considered spam, and spam is only good after it's been fried and put on rice.

I don't and I dont EVER want to see a shout box here either. Not even a chat room. Those things are redundant and defeat the entire purpose of even having a forum to begin with.

Hmm, ok I was just asking because I like to get to know the community and get comfortable on the forum before posting much.

Lurker's Lair is the closest thing we have to a chatroom, but even that has rules. Oh well. We do chat a lot in Steam chatrooms though.

There is an unofficial Elder Scrolls chat 'room':

irc.chatspike.net #elderscrolls

I don't know how busy it is these days...

Just post and you'll get an idea about the community. If it doesn't fit your cup of tea there's always elsewhere.

Btw, looking at your location and avatar, did Jiub escape Morrowind and reach Skyrim? I always thought he was perhaps eaten by slaughterfish or Fargoth.

Join the BGSF Teamspeak server.

We have morally questionable aquatic creatures, murderers with religious motives, the opposite of lower case letters, a board game, a Jedi that has way too much coffee, a rogue that likes roaming around, and much, much more.

There is that Introduce Yourself thread stickied?
That could tell you about some people, if you have the time to read through all the "hello lololols" to find someone interesting :P

It'd also costs the mods too much time to moderate - time they can use in much better ways on the forum.

I'm a moderator on a forum, where a topic named "Offtopic" is right now almost 6300 pages long. Admins just disabled post coutning in a whole offtopic subforum, so no one gets higher postcount from spamming there.

The thing is, Bethesda's forums run on an old Pentium III computer with 256 MB RAM somewhere in Todd's basemant, so threads here have to be closed after the discussion just started to get interesting, and they are pruned from "old" posts like twice a month.

I might have made up the "Todd's basemant" part. ;)

That's nice, but Bethesda likes to keep their forum clean in order to maintain their reputation. You'd be surprised what kind of things can really neck a company these days.

So besides that, there's the moderator-time-argument and the fact that the added value of such a board or topic is naught.

They already closed General Discussion once way back in the days. Community Discussion is one of the things that keep this forum interesting, let's not speed up its demise with useless chat topics.

Off Topic describes Community Discussion. This section of the boards is for discussing topics that are not related to the core reason for the boards existence, discussing games published by Bethesda.

So, you can talk about anything you want in here as long as it conforms to the rules and is not in and of itself Spam.
