Choosing from a large skill pool

Post » Sat Sep 21, 2013 8:02 am

Most of the skill lines we've seen so far have around 5 active skills, and I believe there will be at least 10 skills lines. I was wondering what impact people think only having a 5 skill hotbar with 50+ skills will have?

My thoughts:

1) This will make it nearly impossible for there to be so many useless filler skills that everyone is using the same skills.

2) Passives might become the main reason to choose a class. It seems unlikely that only class skills will be slotted on the hotbar so the passives might have more impact.

3) This should ensure even more variety between characters, but it really makes me wish we had a couple more hotbar slots. It will be really hard to choose!

Think the challenge will be to get the most out of the skills that define the "class" you want to play... be it damage output, support / crowd controll, healing or whatever.

This will be achieved by improving your active skills through the passive abilities... so you have to find the right combination that fits your playstyle.

But indeed, I'd be happy with a few more hotbar slots too... 5 seems too little... around 6-8 would be nice (I know, it's actually 2x5=10)... I really dont ask for 30+ hotbar slots like some "oldschool" MMOs had

its not a favorite rotation combat , ist a deck-based game...... choose the right deck for the thing you want to do.

I guess modders will create some extra bars, so you will have place for everything.

No probably not. that would create an imbalance with the game and affects how you play the game. UI mods are only there to make it look prettier or to help you on a way that does not affect anyone else.

I beleive it's gonna do like Diablo 3, a lot of choices but can take only few of theses. 5slots for 50skills means at least (50*49*48*47*46) 24millions possibilities. Of course each players will have to adapt it to their playstyle so we won't have 24millions possibilities for our specific character (thank god), but i'm pretty sure that everyone is gonna have an unique build, until some theorycrafters comes into play and tell everyone, that combo is the best for PvP, this one for PvE, this one for 1v1 etc.

And as far as i'm concerned for passives, I beleive people are gonna take their 5skills, and put their others skill points in passives.

Sure modders could make more action bars. They won't work though.

Perhaps a modder could make alternate hotbar configurations so that one could swap their "active" hotbar for a different set of active abilities "on the fly" --- or at least as quickly as it can be done. I mean, I'm sure you can change which abilities you have on the hotbar ---- OUT of combat, for sure ---- but maybe you can just click one button and BOOM you have the new configuration loaded up instead of having the drag each new power onto the one, existing, active hotkeybar. Instead, you just SET Alternate-hotkey-bar as "active" hotkeybar... or worst case, I suppose, they could just display the skills and you could drag them into the active bar (instead of opening up a skill book or however you see what you COULD put on the hotkey bar).

In any case, it would at best just be a time-saving thing, not something you could not do on your own given time.

Currently its 31 skill lines we know of and there might be some we are not aware of or yet to be added to the game. Though only 21 skill lines will be available to player as class ones are exclusive as well as vamp/werewolf. That is without racial skill lines as they have only ultimate ability and few passives and they are exclusive to race as well

nope, again that sort of thing affects gameplay which will not be allowed. people without the mod will have a disadvantage because they cannot switch skills "on the fly"

I have seen a lot of skyrim videos where people got some pretty nasty viruses from modds. but like I said that was skyrim and I don't know what will be in eso. if they make the modds and then submit the modd to the developers and its controlled by, and worked on by the developers to keep peoples computers safe then, ok, but im kind of skeptical about how this is going to work out.

The only way you will get viruses from mods is if you download them from an untrustworthy site. The Nexus is the main place to get Mods and I have never heard of people getting viruses from there.

well idk where they got them from. just watching videos and a lot people crashing and eventually have to make a clean game and remove from PC is what they said on their videos. but I noticed it came most often when people were mixing modds together, having several modds at once conflicting with eachother. but if the modds are going to be monitored and worked on by developers and they give instructions easy to understand then I guess might be ok, but really think this is something should be caution and need some wisdom, and like you and others have said its giving an advantage and imbalance to those who don't use the modds in this piticular instance of skills and swapping weapons and skills on the fly and others cant do it as quickly. I agree with you on this.

The Nexus has really easy to understand instructions, people just don't read. I can bet you that if UI mods are able to conflict there is going to be some people who somehow manage to erase their entire UI then complain about it to the developers or on the forums even though it was their fault. though as only UI mods are going to be allowed, it is highly unlikely people are going to have more than a couple of them installed.
