Choppy camera

Are there any INI or general tweaks to increase the performance of the render window in the geck? When I use free move (~) any movement of the mouse turns it into a 1 FPS slideshow making any sort of item placement a chore. Im running a 3.2ghz quadcore with 4gb of ram and a 4870 and I have no problems in game, just when I run the editor.

In The GECK go to File-Preferences-Render Window tab

Uncheck Allow Render Window Cell Loads, Update M Number for Selected Objects and Constant Update.

I'm not sure what all of those things do but unchecking them made exterior cells much smoother

Also thats the place to adjuist all your movement speeds for scrolling, etc..

The more ram you have the better even with 2gigs it doesn't work very well especially exterior cells, I have 4gigs and exterior cells run better but still are not smooth, interiors on the other hand run fairly nice. I haven't done any LOD or heightmap generating so I maybe way off but I think they require gobs of computer horsepower :shocking: . So if your budget and computer can handle more ram you should definitely try to add some to your rig.

I think you guys missed something, he doesnt mean overall, he means when you use ` (It's not the ~ key its the ` key as the tilde is the alternate function.) to go into the weird panning first person camera thing. That was glitchy in the FO3 geck as well, and as far as I can tell its simply something they did not code properly/well so its doesnt work right. I never ever use it, so just get used to normal camera movement. I think it was intended to get a very specific camera placement, not actually use for anything else really.

uncheck Allow Render Window Cell Loads,

I can at least tell you what this does: it denies the GECK to load a new cell and making it active when clicking in it. Mighty useful when editing the wasteland. It happened to me that I was jumping confusedly around cells in the wasteland, ending up in and changing places I never intended to because the program just loaded another cell. After disabling it I could comfortably edit one cell withough having to fear of changing stuff somewhere else...

cheers,
