City of Heroes being shut down

If you played this MMO, I have some news:

Guess DC Universe Online has less competition now.

That's sad. I played the 14 day trial once, it was a really fun game.

IMO, the only thing CoH has against DCUO is character creation :P

I just hope a ton of people don't flock over to DCUO

Now's the time for Marvel to pull their finger out and develop a game that has CoH's character creation(but better), along with DCUO's gameplay(but better).

Marvel, haha. They are junk at creating games :P

I mean, DC has Arkham City which is great, what does Marvel have that equals up to that?

Plus I find the Marvel world boring compared to DC, just my opinion

Ah, that's a shame. I had a whole pile o' characters on that game at one point (well, they're still there, but I can only access a few of them under the basic f2p system.

Yeah, the combat got a bit repetitive, but creating characters & costumes was a blast. (the fact that I actually bought additional character slots for alts, even back before the f2p conversion is a clear sign of how much I enjoyed that part.) Constructing bases was also fun, not that I really went too far in that direction - I was only playing solo, not with a large guild to funnel resources.

re: comics.... I never really got into supers comics too much. Got a few, back when I was a young'un in the early 80's (partially because, hey - preteen boy in the early 80's. Supers comics was a good source of boobs in that pre-internet era  ). But I mostly got fantasy & action comics... Elfquest & GIJoe. In the 90's & 00's, that moved on to DC's Vertigo stuff (Sandman, Lucifer, House of Mystery, etc). Still, I found Marvel's supers to be more interesting than DC's, in a general sense. Superman, for instance, has never really compelled me. Batman (BtAS) & Wonder Woman (ah, Lynda Carter's WW. Another good source of boobs in a more innocent time. :D) were interesting, but that's kind of it. None of the other stuff really stood out.

I have some serious doubts that going to happen.

Doubts that Marvel could create a good game? or that they will create a (free)MMO game?

I went into DCUO knowing only who the main heroes and villains are. I recognize EVERYONE from the Batman comics (as I watched the Animated Series) and of course I knew who main heroes were, Superman + Lex/Bizarro/Doomsday along with Wonderwoman and the Lanterns, other then that I didn't know of anything else.

I guess the game hooked me in because I'm a major Batman fan and Gotham looks great.

That's entirely subjective. I like lots of Marvel's stuff, but with the possible exception of Batman I find pretty much every single DC character I know of incredibly dull.

As for Marvel games, I don't know many of them but Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 was lots of fun, despite its simplicity, and X-Men Legends 2 is probably my favourite co-op RPG.

Big reaction on the CoH forums (as expected) - they've got a petition set up, not that it will serve any real purpose.

I never played it but I know a few people who did, a bit sad anyway.

I brought up something similar in the comics thread.

I remember throwing a bunch of quarters into that original X-Men arcade game back in the early 90's. The one with the huge control deck & four sets of controls.

Now that you mention Spider-Man, I've been playing Shattered Dimensions recently and I was surprised by how good it was.

Minesweeper is a real game too, and I never bothered with Arkham City because I though Arkham Asylum's story was terribly boring and it's gameplay pretty much non-existent. I felt like whenever I pressed a button, something awesome had to happen.

Fair enough, I find every Marvel game to be released with no story and terrible controls, but to each their own.

May I ask how far you actually made it on Arkham Asylum, and did you actually try secretive killing and such?

Well this blows. I can't play the WoW free version (thanks to the new update and apple saying my 4 year old computer is obsolete) and now this is getting shut down. I have no games now:(

I quit not long after finding the hidden Bat Cave I think, so I didn't get very far. That's the last part I can remember anyway. I did try to use stealth as much as possible, the problem was that stealth was way too easy. Doesn't matter how many spotlights are on you or how hard enemies are looking for you, as long as you're perched on a gargoyle you're completely invisible. It was great in the beginning because everything looked awesome, but it didn't remain fun to play for very long. Also, making me hit the same button a dozen times in half as many seconds just to get in and out of ventilation shafts is a good way to make me quit a game in a fit of rage.
