ckskyrim crashing my comp?

Post » Fri Nov 16, 2012 5:00 am

I now have had 3 blue screen crashes when running ck and once in-game.

Edit: After the second crash yesterday i uninstall/reinstall both skyrim and ck
Edit: and the writing on the bluescreen is unreadable as the resolution is shot.

after reeboot this is what comes up:

Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown

I dunno about the actual error message.. but someone in another thread discovered that a corrupt DirectX causes BSOD/reboot in the CK at times. That eventually escalated into rebooting the entire system seemingly randomly. It's cool that he figured it out relatively quickly, so this may help you. Try uninstalling, then reinstalling DirectX. Outside of that, I dunno what to tell ya.

I actually just thought of something- For the last 2 weeks or so, my comp would randomly blue screen as well. (Every few days) I think the latest version of some kind of DirectX software that a few of us got may have been corrupted. Though it stopped happening after I installed a new game, and thus a new DX library. So I think the second to latest version may have an incompatability or corruption or something. Because I haven't bluescreened once since installing the new libraries.

thanks for the heads up guys,
I did a Driver reinstall and have not had a crash yet. So it appears it was a driver problem

If by drivers you mean DirectX, then it sounds like we have a pattern here, and people should be made aware of it. Was that the case, or are you talking about system drivers, like nVidia for your GPU?

So evidently there IS/WAS an issue with DirectX. This is the second or third case I've heard of this happening (thankfully none are my own!). Thank Brewskie for figuring out the cause and fix.

Now I wonder which version of the update had the brown acid...

[EDIT: ...and some people think I'm crazy for waiting on updating my game for a couple weeks after the release..]
