Clarification in combat mechanics!

Is it true that there are no threat generating skills/ taunts ? no tanks? no holy trinity?
If not its going to be a real pain to play pve like GW2 .. a total mess. Can someone
explain to me how this going to work?

There are for sure Tanks, Healers and Dps on this game.
And Tanks will probaly have some skills to keep agroo. This is not Guild Wars 2

As far as I know there is no agro in ESO, instead when you enter a room that has enemy NPC's in it, one of them might sound an alarm which then alerts every enemy in the area to the situation and then they all combine their efforts against you and your group. There is none of...pull one or two at a time thing like most MMO's instead you have to tackle everything there is in each room. Plus the enemy will be using all of their skills in synergy against you just like you can use your groups skills in synergy against them.

If they could get away from the holy trinity and still have a playable game, that would be fantastic. That has to be the tiredest gameplay mechanic in the world of MMOs; makes it really hard to put together a functional group, and it leads to all kinds of social problems too (I say this as an ex-healer :P ). But yeah, from the interviews I've heard, it doesn't sound like they've figured out how to do that :(

Dunno about GW2 (tried the beta but didn't get far in it), but one game failing to escape the stranglehold doesn't mean another couldn't succeed. I can dream!

These specializations will all lean themselves towards either damage, healing, or threat generation-type of bonuses, but remember, you’re not locked into this style of play. At any point you can switch up your weapons and skills and change from a character who has predominantly been a healer and switch to a DPS. This has been made possible by Zenimax allowing any character to use any weapon at any time. In short, there are no skill trees that lock you into a certain play style. You are free to play any way you want.

even without dedicated tanks and healers, aggro is necessary imo.
I think that kiting mobs should definitely be a viable option, or pet-tanking. A decision to abstain from aggro and threat would be a bad move on the ZO team.

I hope its not the same as GW2, it's much more interesting with the holy trinity in my opinion, even with the negatives of having to wait for the needed class to start a dungeon/ raid etc.

Thanks for the reply friends! much appreciated!.

Thanks for the link lollie, very interesting :) So they compromised by maintaining the three ROLES of the trinity, but allowing for a player to fill more than one role. Hope it works as well as that description suggests!

Only reason I'm skeptical is that it's been tried before, but unless your warrior can be an OPTIMAL healer or your mage can be an OPTIMAL tank, you tend to get pigeonholed anyway, at least on the challenging content :/

I think, or I hope, where ESO will succeed is how the players and mobs can combine their skills in synergy moves that make your skills do other things you can not do on your own...

That said, I want to be able to do a lot on my own :twirl:
