Classical Music that could replace Skyrim's music?

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 7:01 pm

No rage, no hate or anything of that sort. Just a fun thread to compare Classical and Modern music for fun only :)

The following are some good examples IMHO

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDFFHaz9GsY

This is Verdi's Requiem. The section of that video is the Dies Irae movement which means Judgement day, so basically that piece is telling about the woes and cries of the earth during jugement day. To me it sounds like the angelic voices of the angels singing songs of pity over the charred burned Earth.

Now this is another Requiem but it is extremely unique. It's written by Mozart and was Mozart's final composition, although he never finished it. To me, it sounds like all of Mozart's rage stored in one piece, Mozart was after all treated poorly during his time, hence his poverty. He had several severe illnesses that dragged him down and dare I mention Salleri, the man who is rumored to have poisoned Mozart, and screwed up basically most of Mozart's career. The piece starts with a subtle theme before leading into the Dies Irae passage.

This is perhaps my favorite among them all. Originally a Concerto, A concerto is a musical form of composition which involves a solo instrument accompanied by an orchestra. But this is a solo version. Deviously hard, just wait and see what happens after the opening chords. A totentanz is called a dance of death. When Liszt was composing this, he was obsessed with death and interviewed people who were on death row as inspiration. Truly madness at its finest here.

Awww...I like them!

Think most people playing skyrim would add in some more black or heavy metal perhaps :P

I′m going to look and see if I can come up with some good tunes to put together a skyrim playlist.

Thanks!

If only everyone bumped their thread because they were convinced it was important, how great it would be.

Flight of the Bumblebee is honestly overrated :P, way to popular... There are far many better works which are a lot less popular among the general audience(a.k.a teens) such as perhaps the well known 3rd movement of the moonlight sonata, Sancan's Tocatta is a delight as well oh there is also pretty much all of Chopin's etudes from the op.10 and 25 which are extremely virtuostic and showy :D, my favourite being the ocean etude, winter wind etude and the octave etude, pretty ironic as they are all the last three in order :D

Chizmata, i think that it just takes some time and effort. Don't listen to the popular pieces, they really are NOTHING when compared to the other works composers wrote :), well maybe you hate the 17-18th century music because that was around the classical - baroque era :P, maybe you would like romantic era music? Romantic era music had a LOT of showy works that would impress the audience :D, hence the LISZTOMANIA HAHAHAH :P Or maybe the mind wrecking contemporary era? Ride of the Valkyries as you bear down on your enemies, or Hall of the Mountain King as you sneak through a dungeon, but with the crescendo programmed to blossom as you backstab an enemy and engage the rest in hectic combat.

Other than that I'm actually blown away with the sound quality in this game, been playing with my AKG studio headphones and I'm tempted to say this has unbelievable sound quality considering the scope of the game. They could easily have cheapened the quality to make space.

True, the quality and effort put into Skyrim's sound features is really epic :D, loving every moment of it :) Especially when I first bought the game and the voices shouted when I pressed enter :P

i dunno. i just dont like the atmosphere they create with the instruments. its not that i dislike the instruments at all but... every music captures the spirit of the life the people live and i guess i dont like their spirit.

I miss Oblivion's main theme, honestly.

Most people would agree that Morrowind's was at least 10x better.

However, more on topic. In Oblivion whenever I wanted to add more music I took everything I could from Morrowind and Guild Wars and threw it on top of the defaults. Nothing goes better with Soule's music than more of Soule's music.

I think Baroque era classical music would work. Vivaldi comes to mind.

Beethoven's Symphony #7, op 92 Allegretto - I love this piece. I think it would correspond perfectly to climbing a mountain and reaching the peak.

Hydn's Kyrie from Missa in Angustiis. While the lyrics don't fit, it really has that dark and foreboding atmosphere (troubled times anyone?) (http://youtu.be/UZfd4BZOg0Q?t=1m24s).

I was going to say Hall of the Mountain King, but, it appears I was beaten to it.

Adagio for strings - let's just face that this is an awesome awesome piece that can really be fitted with anything.

The Planets, Mars bringer of war (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0bcRCCg01I) just oh so perfect.

"A night on the bare mountain" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0h6H_vcSKc)

More to come from me...

Haha, your probably thinking of the stormy presto movement of the summer season from his 4 seasons :P

Haha, so far you've been giving really good examples :), I'm sure that these days most people prefer music that is ''loud'' rather than complex so I might suggest Shostakovich's 5th symphony, especially the final movement. By no means is it not complex, but it does have some volume, really thrilling when heard live.
