Clear internet, no network access

Post » Sat May 12, 2012 2:41 pm

So I just got back to base after Christmas leave and my CLEAR mobile broadband isn't working. I connect through Intel WiMax (therefore I don't have a card or router or anything, I just subscribe and am able to connect directly from my laptop) and it was working here before leave, and it worked in Baltimore during leave and at the airport.

I can connect to CLEAR and it shows a 'very good' signal, however at the bottom where the signal is displayed it says 'no network access' and I can't connect to the internet. (I'm using my ATT card right now, but it has a 5gb limit so I use it solely for Xbox Live).

It says I'm connecting, but I can't get on the internet. I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with WiMax but when you turn it on it turns WiFi off. I'm using WiFi right now and it works no problem, and WiMax was working at the airport in Baltimore this morning...And I'm definitely getting a good signal.

Any ideas?

I used to work tech support for CLEAR, horrible internet service in all actuality, they just shut down the call center here and are outsourcing otherwise I'd tell you to call.

Tried restarting the computer? Disabling/Renabling the WiMax?

You could as well go to Start > Programs > Accessories > Right Click "Command Prompt" and run as Admin.

Then you'll type this:

netsh int ip reset reset
netsh winsock reset

Restart and reconnect.

I've never heard of CLEAR or WiMax before. Do you need to enter a password to use it? Usually mobile broadband requires a password to connect to the internet in my experience.

CLEAR is one of the worst services out there, even if you get it working, they throttle everything pretty much. If you read the ToS they basically only allow for web browsing and retain the right to throttle everything else to basically dial-up speeds.

I've tried restarting and disabling and re-enabling WiMax. No dice. Right now I'm running the Intel Driver update utility to see if it can update the drivers. Next I might try a system restore (to like yesterday or something).

I don't mind CLEAR so far. It's the only mobile service I've found that doesn't have a bandwidth limit, and it's worked for Netflix so far (though I have to let movies load for maybe a minute or two, no big deal).

Try running the commands I sent you first.

Alright, did that, still no network access.. It sits there and just says identifying for awhile and when I scroll over the CLEAR logo it says acquiring IP address but eventually it just says no network access...

Updated the drivers, still nothing :(

EDIT 2: Updated different drivers and now it's working. Yay! Time for bed. Thanks for the help, it's been a long day.
