Clearing game cache

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 10:07 am

I know you hold down LB, RB and X while the game is booting to clear it, but do you get a message to say it worked? I did it but nothing appeared to confirm it worked, so dunno if it did or not

no message given. i think on the xbox all that is needed is to press and hold one button.

Go to your system settings.. click on memory, click on a hard drive, press Y to clear cache. You used to have to do it the way you tried before they added in the option to clear the cache.. but since that's there now I don't know if what your doing works anymore.

That′s how u clear the XBOX Cache.
Don′t do it...it just forces u to download every patch again, i never use this.

Clear the Game cache.

There is no prompt when you've completed this.

Clear the Game cache. Just press and hold the A button as soon as you boot up the game and hold them
till u need to press start.
If u do it right, the -press start- screen should appear faster than usual.

This was actually how the same process was completed... but for Oblivion.

Holding the a button only worked for oblivion. When fallout starts to read from dashboard, hold in left and right bumper and X button for 30 seconds.

Cheers. Seem to be getting long load times when in Freeside, but according to the Fallout wiki there are loading issues with that area?

You can tell it's working because it's takes a little bit longer than usual to boot the game up when the cache is being cleared.

After that loading times will be a little bit longer while the cache is being rebuilt.

yea this doesnt exactly help. what proof isthere that this button pressing even does ANYTHING? i tried it and i see no difference. i think the "clear game cache" is BS. but that is just my opinion.

No the clear the cache is not BS. If done right it does work.

The best way is to do it from the dashboard. Go to the dashboard with the disc in the drive.Go to my xbox, press A to boot the game. Immediately press and hold LB + RB + X down until the main menu has loaded.

There are tell tale signs it worked. If you run the game from DVD you will hear more disc activity to start with especially when accessing inventory. Although if you have installed the game you will likely not notice anything.

If you are still not sure it's working then just clear the system cache. This will still clear the game cache but will also delete patches and other system info like friends gamerpics from the cache. But the cache will rebuild itself and patches will redownload when needed.

It does work. First time I had cache problems was with oblivion. I thought I had a defective copy because the graphics would get incredibly choppy and character's speech would get all messed up. Immediately after reading about clearing the cache, I did it and never had those problems again. With fallout 3, after playing awhile, the graphics would get all messed up...floating jagged triangles and other distortions, making gameplay impossible. I simply cleared cache and no problems with that anymore

Resetting cache from the system menu deletes all patches for all games in your xbox. Resetting cache as the game starts to boot up doesn't affect your patches.
