CODE NOT LOADED

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 4:31 pm

Hello All,

I don't start too many topics ... So something must be up?

I saw a post by PROMETHEUS earlier, asking how to fix his mod after the latest game update. He had lost all of his script fragments, to be replaced by the words, "CODE NOT LOADED".

So, I innocently wandered into the CK, a few minutes ago, and started scouting about for stuff for a new (mini) mod.

I found the "stables" quest (vanilla) in the Dialogue branch of Quests

On its stage 10 it once had a fragment ... that fragment has been replaced with, "CODE NOT LOADED"
  • So, is this game-update different to other previous updates?
  • Do I need to do something to get the fragment back for this vanilla Stables Quest?
  • Are other vanilla quests effected?
What is going on!?

I suspect I am just being stupid, and I have just been lucky to date and not encountered this "feature" ... Obviously there's an easy fix?! Isn't there ...?!!!

Is this a Reinstall the CK jobby? Oh I hope not :(

I get that when I delete one of my source files.

Id personally try and uninstall the CK and reinstall it.

With my own stuff I would happily accept that. If I have modded a vanilla NPC (or other vanilla object), then I might expect an update to mess about with that object.

But "stables" is a vanilla quest ... completely untouched by me (honestly, I checked, never touched the thing ... )

Why is THAT effected by this update?!! and IF it is, what else is effected?

(I will reinstall ... in a while after I've chased everything else ... but this is weird, isn't it!!?)

Note: Maybe it isn't weird, like I said maybe this happened in every game-update but I just been lucky never to encounter it in the stuff I used (99% of my stuff is my stuff ... I very very rarely touch vanilla)?

Just for Reference, here is PROM's post: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1408027-ok-the-update-deleted-all-the-code-quests-i-have-done/

OK ... how very weird.

I can find no other Vanilla Quest with this "issue" (I've not checked all of them, obviously ;))

when I go find the PSC file for this "stables" quest (QF_Stables_00068D73.psc) it actually has "CODE NOT LOADED" in the psc file

So like I'm baffled ... and probably very unlucky if that quest is the only vanilla quest with - for some reason? - the same "message" that so upset Prometheus, earlier.

As Alice would say ... Curious, no?

Do you have Dawnguard loaded when you are trying to view this? There are several scripts that were vanilla that were changed (for example: CartRider, BlackSmithForge01, Several Companion Quest Scripts) which will not have the source unless you point the Dawnguard scripts to the CK

I don't own Dawnguard ... so I can't make it a Master (can I!? I don't think I can).

Anyway ... I THINK I am putting this down to incredible bad-luck ... It appears the "stables" quest is the only one in this state ... So I think it is just a coincidence that I checked that quest after reading Prometheus' troubles.

(though if someone could check their version of "stables" quest, and see what the Code is, in the only stage of that quest, it would be much appreciated :))

The actual source for the file is that way. "CODE NOT LOADED" occurs when the Quest Fragments fail "validation".. whatever that means. I've had it happen a few times, when I'm trying out my mods in the released package form, and I'm moving the script sources around on the CK. It doesn't like that apparently, and it has nothing to do with the most recent update.

Clearly they packaged the code like that, which means that either the code was useless and served no functional purpose, or they messed up some of the quest fragments before packaging the source for us.

I don't think Prometheus's issues had anything to do with the update either. He was probably moving his scripts around, like how I was. But hey, it's easy to blame an update whenever something goes wrong, I understand that. But all this update did was download stuff to the Scripts/Source/Dawnguard folder.

there are a few vanilla fragments/topic infos that have this. they were published that way, meaning the dev probably deleted the unused pex/psc without re-compiling or "cleansing" the VMAD record. as far as i know, as long as the missing file is not actually needed to do anything, it just gets ignored and goes along its merry way (although may dump a few recurring papyrus errors in the log).

"stables" appears to function (unless there is another way to buy a horse?!)

So it does appear it is "just" something whacky that happened before Beth released Skyrim v1.

Thanks to everyone for confirming that they have what I have ... I'll get back to playing with my toys :)

Hope you get yours sorted, Prometheus ... Is it the Dialogue Bug effecting you? Have you tried to start a new game, save - exit to menu - reload to see if the "workaround" fixes your problem?
