I have probably read quite a few of the books that are in-game, and picked up all that were in Whiterun's Keep. Come to found out they all have a weight of 1 and I'd like to keep them around. How can I save them in the meantime, while I'm saving for a house?

Store them in a safe crate or drop them in a safe location. Oh wait, you probably can't if you're on the PC because I've heard the interface is terrible.

if ur on a pc, i would recommend not keeping them (or at least waiting for a mod to make their weight 0). there will be an online library of all the books text...eventually

buy a house in whiterun, then put them in the chest, or better, buy the upgrades for the house so u get a bookcase which u can store your books in which also will be displayed

Put them in a chest or barrel or something? But be wary, I've heard/read somewhere that NPC's can steal/take your stuff. Not sure.
