Playing through with my Mage right now and I'm at the part where you have to acquire the staff of Magnus. I've reached the Dwarven apparatus at the end, and now I'm lost. I understand that you must use frost and fire spells to alter the paths of light emitted from the crystal, and you must press the buttons so that the mirrors match up with the paths of light, but it appears that it's impossible. Is this just not working correctly, or am I completely missing something?

Hopefully some of you here have gotten this far.

You need to stand under and fire the frost/fire spells until each of the three beams of light hits a different 'level' of the ceiling. You're better using lasting spells rather than bolts of fire/frost. Spend a few seconds blasting them (I did mine together as my mage is pure duel weilding spells) and stepped away to see where they were pointing. When they eventually pointed at the three different levels, I went to work on the switches making sure the beams of light were all hitting the mirrors on each level.

Ah, okay. It was the standing under it and elemental stream part that I wasn't doing. If you don't do it that way, the light beams only shift between two set positions.
