Color coded item names

Post » Sat Sep 14, 2013 2:09 pm

I was just wondering if this subject was brought up or not. Will dropped and crafted equipment have the names color coded like most MMOs ? I couldn't seem to find any relevant threads on this.

Yes items will be colour coded.

Watch the quakecon video to see it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2CB4b_Qh45k

I would think so, just for ease of identification. If you can tell at a glance that an item is THIS color quality or THAT... you can immediately judge its relative value.

They sure will, even though that's one of the MMO-isms I really dislike, seems unavoidable.

In an mmo you need to be able to instanrly tell if an item is ann upgrade or not. Color coding is one way to do it. I'm fine with it

Why is that a "need"?

But isn't color-coding just about rarity? Doesn't really automatically mean something is better, just rarer (ie: worth more)?

Personally, I'd much rather see something pop up in a loot table and go "Ooh, what's that?!" , like I've done in Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind (for example) instead of "Ooh, a purple!"

Then again, I'm an old-school MMO curmudgeon who bemoans the "convenience uber alles" mantra of WoW and its spawn, and am very much in the minority.

I'm actually really disappointed that they put the color codes in.

Too many times I've seen someone immidiately rolling need on a purple item even though the blue item they were wearing had better stats for his class/spec.

"But it's epic!"

I wished ZOS would've just let people use their brains, but oh well...
