Color Codes For "Elegant" Forum Theme

Post » Sun Jun 30, 2013 1:23 pm

Hey community, and hey to you fellow Elegant users!

"Elegant? What the jumping Jaguars are you talking about, tgl?"

Okay, I will back it up a bit. For those who do not know, at the bottom of the page is a small drop down menu called "Change Theme". Clicking it, you have the choices of the mobile version, Warrior (the default Steam-looking theme), and of course: Elegant! I cannot guess as to why people like Elegant but personally I like using the theme because of it's simplicity, easier to read posts, and the best (if not, fun) part of it--the color wheel! Yep, adjust the forum skin to any color you want (Note: This is only for the Elegant theme!). It can be found by clicking the little paint can image in the top right, under the search box.

Once I started to get used to the wheel itself, I have been wanting to adjust to my favorite color or the color that looks the best. Some may know this already but for those who do not know and want a easier way to get a "official" color set, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colors

What good does a list of colors do for you and picking the right color? For each color, it has shades. And for each shade has a page where you can find a type of code called a "hex triplet" or just simply "web colors".http://i956.photobucket.com/albums/ae50/tgl_2010/color_zpsf1a318ac.png~original

Notice when you use the color wheel on the forums here, you see a small box with a hashtag (#) and funky looking combinations of numbers and/or letters? Those are the numbers for the web colors I explained above.

Below is a list of each color. Clicking one will send you to a list of shades of that color. Clicking on a shade of that color will send you to a page of that specific color.

Warning: Picking a specific shade of a color will simulate effects of being at Home Depot.

When you see a color you like or want to test it out, simply copy paste the code from the color's wiki page to the color wheel's code box. Once pasted, press enter.

I personally loved what I found and thought I would show others who were in the same boat as me. Now you have a "template" of colors instead of mindlessly moving the color wheel around! I like the colors Blue, Green, Teal (You know, the "calm" colors!) but once I found Cerulean (a shade of Cyan) I fell in love with the color! A perfect balance for me! Personally, of course...

Hope this helps! :tops:

Woah, this is something new. All these years and I've never bothered to scroll down and notice the "Change Theme" option. Thanks! :icecream:

Sure thing!

I only recently discovered the theme last year (IIRC). It is easily missed and not mentioned much anywhere on the forum :)

I don't expect it to be there much longer, honestly.

When I joined, there were like 6 themes, went up to like 8 I think.

Then we updated to IPB 3. Theme count was dropped to 3 (including mobile). It then grew to 4 (Elegant was introduced)

Then in the last upgrade, theme count was reduced to 2 initially (Warrior and Mobile). After we begged and begged, they finally gave us Elegant again, but we never got IP.Board back. Leaving the site with 3 themes (one of which is crap on desktops).

What makes the matter worse is that after the upgrade, the IP.Board theme was still on the server. A simple URL hack would allow you to re-enable it and it was working 100% flawlessly. There was no technical reason for us to not have IP.Board. I then posted how to do the URL hack, and in a matter of hours the admins broke it, taking away any hope of users having the option to choose a theme that's included by default in IPB software.

Just for the record, I usually use greenish: I had my regular colour code but I got fed up with digging it out every 10 days (God knows why the cookie has such a short lifetime... it was briefly set to three years before being promptly changed back to just over a week), so it's currently #63871d, though next time it resets it'll be another approximation. Of course no colour scheme before or since ever came close to the awesome TESF Tan of 2006.

Was that also the color scheme in the TES forum before the dark, Skyrim theme with the Dragonborn in the background? I remember the scheme similar to CD as well as the old banner it had :D

There was the FO3 theme before Skyrim, which was another rather gloomy overcast one: dark grey on darker grey or something like that, as I recall. And before that was the Tan theme, which was nice and cheerful; I don't have a link handy, but it was not dissimilar to the http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php?title=Main_Page. And before that are the days of green and purple that the forum fossils go on about!

To be honest, I like that scheme a lot better than Warrior. I wonder why the themes were taken out :(
