Combat and Interaction Mechanics

Post » Tue Oct 23, 2012 12:09 pm

"Combat in ESO features a simple and intuitive control scheme that relies heavily on situational responsiveness and an action combat system to keep the game from becoming overly predictable or repetitive."
"Left clicking activates your basic melee attack, while holding the left mouse button charges a power attack. Power attacks do not cost Stamina to use, however they are slower to execute. Additionally, they feature some context sensitive elements, inflicting additional effects depending on your target’s state. Holding the right mouse button engages active blocking, slowly draining stamina in order to intercept enemy attacks with a weapon or shield. While in active block mode, the player can shield (or weapon) bash by left clicking to interrupt enemy spell casting or to break free of crowd control effects."
"Interaction with the world and its many objects is equally simple and familiar. As in Skyrim, E is the default interact key, enabling the player to loot, communicate with NPCs, and open doors or containers. Stealth also works in a very similar way."
"...your skills are not restricted by a cooldown timer, but they do cost Stamina or Magicka to activate."

This is all from an article posted in the facebook page. (For some reason I'm not allowed to post links).

Based on what I read in the new article posted, I'm more than excited to try this game, the combat kind of reminds me of Piranha Bytes games (Gothic and Risen, german games). Now all I need is a video showing this gameplay

Its almost like DCUO's combat, sadly it wasnt very well received by MMO community, or then it was just SOE hate. Tera Online was one too and it failed fast. Maybe they should offer both, this combat and traditional combat for those who like it. Use that megaserver thing and let player choose which one they like to use. Anyway I think big chunk of player still prefer traditonal tab-target game without reticuler.

As a long time MMOr I've always been open to new takes on tried and true mechanics. I'm willing to try it and give it a chance if it works well and makes combat more exciting and engaging. I've also played lots of RPGs and wished that combat could be made to work in an MMO. So hopefully this will finally be the transition to more engaging MMO combat lots of us have been waiting for.

Ive played both Tera Online and DCUO, sure its fun, but sadly its more tiresome, I can stay in Rifts hours and hours because its so bland and boring... but DCUO and Tera Online maybe max 4 hour or so, but PVP is more fun though, theres that player's real skill factor. I still think AoC combat is the best MMO ever created, if theres one combat to clone its that one.

Where did I complain, it seems most people still prefer wow-combat, DCUO and Tera Online both had similiar combat than this and trust me no-one didnt care at all, especially DCUO, come on it was SOE's game after all, it really underperformanced.

Im all excited for this after Rift, sounds absolutely great.

well. I disagree. The recent success of GW2 has shown that people indeed want a change, the fact that people cant adjust to anything but WoW combat is a myth, largeley only believed by the stubborn publishers themselves.

Aye, well we will see how long it last. GW2 is the most anticipated game in the history of MMOs. Seriously real asslicking. Actually Anet must have done something right because everyone liked to lick their ass. Really. Dont know what its, I didnt follow it or Ive no plans to play it either.

But what Im saying, DCUO's combat whats truly amazing didnt generate anykind of interest, what I find stunning. Thats all.
