Combat and Non-Combat Animations...

Post » Tue Apr 09, 2013 7:36 am

I sincerely hope that the Combat and Non-Combat animations between the races and sixes will actually be different.

There is nothing more boring than creating a character only to find out that your Khajit fights, jumps, swims, dances, sits, and stands just like an Argonian or a Redguard does everything exactly the same as a Nord.

Case and point, Rift/WoW uses different, albeit some of the races have some ridiculous animations, Combat and Non-Combat animations depending on the race/six of the character.

Otherwise you will end up with the tedium of Neverwinter and its duplicated combat animations for each race and six.

I know this is still an Elder Scrolls game, but I would hope that they would broaden their horizons with this MMORPG.

To me it helps in the immersion/Lore aspects of the game. As no two sword fighters from opposite ends of the earth, using different swords will fight in the same way. And if you are a melee character, it gives you something else to think about when designing your character. It affects casters as well because they will have to look at the same casting animations until they finally step away from their character.

Please feel free to comment. I look forward to the many observations of the viewing public. Good hunting.

It would be great to see some variations of movement and idle animations from race to race and sixes, but I don't expect to see them anytime soon. From the looks of it in older footage the running animation in particular still needs some ironing out, and from what I've seen in leaked footage is that it hasn't changed much since. Combat animations are okay but still seem a little wooden to me.

Animations are the one thing that is nearly consistantly terrible with Elder Scrolls games.

Therefore, an Elder Scrolls game with good animations would just feel wrong!

...I may or may not be kidding. One thing WoW managed to get right from Day 1 is character aesthetic- Every race and Gender of race felt distinct right down to the /dance command.

I did roll a female tauren dk just because they have the best 2 handed animations in the game. :)
