Combat like DA:O

Post » Fri Jul 19, 2013 3:16 am

I've just recently played Dragon Age: Origins. It was my first RPG where I didn't have to aim and where I had to click lots of buttons for different abilities. I thought the combat was boring like hell, even though I played quite good.

My question is: Will the combat in ESO be anything like that?

I really hope not. I know this is an MMO and all but combat like in DA:O is just plain boring imho.

Really? What about auto-aiming arrows and magic then?

Yes, I know, but that isn't really aiming yourself, is it?

And please stop saying "/thread".

Yes, you still have to aim. And I will say /thread because this thread is over. I told you this isn't like DA: O and it works just like in Skyrim. That they are using a soft-lock targeting system and you still have to aim. So this thread is done. Unless you have more questions.

We cover this pretty in depth in one of the other threads on the front page.

not to forget about Areal Effects.

so after all it's "auto-attacking" works like Skyrim while all the rest works somehow or other...

In light of the Google "blind idiot" translation of the most recent Buffed.de interview that leperchans posted, I move that we now refer to all area effects as surface effects.

DA:O (really any Bioware RPG) are tactical RPGs. TES games (including ESO) are action RPGs--You have to move and aim where you want your attacks to go.

DA:O had awesome gameplay. It just is a different vein. The OP probably just likes more action-y games.

The soft lock system means you still have to aim. You just don't need to be really precise. Think of it like a lock on system but you have to keep the cursor within a certain area for it to stay locked on. Ever try to hit small moving targets in Skyrim with a projectile? Pain in the ass. Now add ping and it becomes more of nightmare. Especially in huge battles. Soft lock system was probably a good thing.
