Comedy movies - Then and now

Post » Mon Nov 25, 2013 1:43 am

Is it just me, or has comedy movies taken a wrong turn in the last few years? I've not watched a decent comedy movie in a long time. The last thing in a movie that made me laugh was little bits in the Avengers. Other than that... every movie that's made me laugh was 'old'.

I'm a huge fan of Monty Python. My parents got me the boxset of all the movies when I was 13, and I've loved them ever since. The silliness appealed to me then, and the more mature themes get me now. I'm actually getting the Flying Circus for Christmas. :D But I suppose that you could probably tell that I'm a Python fan with my sig. :P

Anyone else feel the same? I think it's because of the fact that funny things when viewed many times over just stop being funny. The genre just feels saturated and reused.

Mel Brooks is the King of funny movies, for some reason his movies can be referenced to and are by far the most memorable films that stick with you.

this

I find the older comedies such as "Its a mad mad mad mad world", "Monty Python and the holy grail" or "Blazing Saddles" to be hilarious..

but the "comedies" that they make these days are nothing but constant cursing sixually-related jokes..
which in all honesty, is not funny

They should do a movie together, just so the poster can say "Russel and Russel"

Adam Sandler movies are not comedy.

Niether are movies with Vince Vaughn in it.

We have a term for this genre of "movies": Worthless Shlock.

The only thing that has changed in terms of movies made today and movies made back then is that technology to make them is easier to get, and so to is selling them. There are still plenty of good comedies out there. You just won't find them if you're always looking at the garbage.

You didn't know? Every comedy movie released in recent years are required by law to contain at least 80% six jokes.

Modern comedies seem to be aimed mainly towards teenagers, so they contain things that teenagers will laugh about. Have comedy movies taken a wrong turn? Maybe. I don't really like comedies to begin with, so I guess I'm not one to judge. I certainly find older stuff more to my liking, but I don't like this "back in day" attitude so I'm not going to do that either.

Off the top of my head, Four Lions and Napoleon Dynamite are the only two decent comedies released in the last ten years or so. Borat was okay.
