Is it common ?

Hello again !

I wanted to ask you guys one thing. Well, since i'm playing as Thief, sometimes i break into a house and steal their goods, but, one thing that is intriguing me is that sometimes when i break into the house, the house owner simply isn't there, he is not awake in any of the rooms and also not sleeping anywhere in his house, i wanted to know if this is not an issue i'm having, that it is common that sometimes the house owner is in his/her house, or if the house owner must always after midnight be sleeping at his/her house.

Example: In this exact moment i decided to break-in a house, i choose Aerin's House in Riften, she simply isn't there, and it is 00:30AM in-game. Note: The door was locked.

Thanks !

They're probably at the tavern. I know that the smith in Whiterun and her husband occasionally hang out at the Mare late when I occasionally check their strongbox for gold.

Some of the characters have weird schedules. Belethor, for example, walks a loop around Whiterun over and over for much of the night after he closes the store. Others go to taverns, as was mentioned. In Windhelm, several of the Dunmer stay at the Cornerclub until the wee hours.

It's also worth mentioning that if you use the wait / sleep function, it can take sometimes a little while for the NPCs in that cell to get back on their appointed schedules, so that can do it to.
